Marvel Comics has just revealed their massive Extreme Carnagea new event featuring the symbiotes that remain on Earth after the invasion of Knull the Symbiote God. Apparently, Carnage has plans for his symbiote siblings from the Life Foundation (and a mysteriously classified new symbiote character), and it seems doubtful that his goals are going to be anything good.

Extreme Carnage will be coming from writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson with art from Leinil Francis Yu and Sunny Gho, following the symbiotes that will apparently survive King in Black that's currently going on in the Marvel Universe. Thus far, Knull the Symbiote God has covered the entire globe in a massive symbiote dome, while also unleashing hordes of symbiote dragons to overwhelm Earth's heroes and those they've been trying to protect, forcibly bonding with them and assimilating them into his dark army. However, the heroes have just enacted a large counterstrike, thanks to the son of Venom Dylan Brock and the Enigma Force. However, Carnage has been noticeably absent from the fight, which is interesting considering he was responsible for freeing Knull in the first place with Marvel's Absolute Carnage storyline.

While Carnage may yet make an appearance in King in Black, he seems as though he'll definitely be dealing with the fallout in Extreme Carnage coming this July. According to the announcement, the Life Foundation symbiotes such as Agony, Lasher, Phage, Scream, and Riot will be ing Carnage in facing what Marvel claims will be "their greatest challenge yet." Furthermore, the teaser artwork from Leinil Francis Yu and Sunny Gho sees Toxin amongst the group, as well as a blacked-out and "classified" eighth member, whose identity is likely a spoiler for King in Black. Here's the teaser art for Extreme Carnage from Marvel Comics:

In the announcement from Marvel, Phillip Kennedy Johnson spoke to the fact that the status quo for symbiotes would be significantly shifting due to King in Black:

“After KING IN BLACK, everything we thought we knew about the symbiotes will have changed. Every man, woman, and child in the Marvel Universe will finally understand the massive threat the symbiotes represent, and the symbiotes that are still among us are now in the crosshairs of some extremely angry, scared, and powerful forces.”

Now that the entire world knows how dangerous symbiotes are, the implication made by Johnson is that symbiotes will start being hunted down, which could be the reason why Carnage is intent on gathering his siblings together in the summer event.

Johnson also promised in the announcement that a "return-to-form" would be coming for Carnage and his fellow symbiotes, while also setting them on a whole new path for their future in the Marvel Universe. In any case, as King in Black comes to a close, fans won't have to wait very long until Extreme Carnage arrives to keep the deadly symbiote saga going from Marvel Comics.
