The release year for the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ending, which sees Noa becoming the leader of the Eagle Clan and Mae returning to a secret human colony that has substantial resources and technology at their disposal.

While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Studios President Steve Asbell revealed that the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' sequel will be released in 2027, three years after its predecessor's theatrical release. 20th Century Studios is currently in the process of making several other franchise sequels as well. Asbell confirmed that this includes James Cameron's Avatar movies, more Predator movies, more adaptations of Agatha Christie mystery novels, and an Alien: Romulus sequel.

What This Means For The Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Sequel

The Franchise Is Still A Priority For 20th Century Studios

Mentioning the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes sequel and its release year during a conversation about the future of 20th Century Studios demonstrates that the franchise remains a priority for the studio. While it was generally well received by critics and general audiences, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' box office was not as successful as the trilogy released from 2011-2017. Nevertheless, the box office results and reception were strong enough to keep 20th Century Studios interested and dedicated to continuing Noa and Mae's stories.

Three years between each installment of the trilogy follows the release plan of the previous movies. Rise of the Planet of the Apes debuted in 2011, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes came in 2014, and War for the Planet of the Apes concluded the story in 2017. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' motion capture work and cinematography were more stunning for the franchise, but it is a complex process that understandably takes time to bring to fruition.

The Sequel Is Set Up For Success

After the strong narrative foundation and the characters were introduced in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, it is promising to see that the story is set to continue. While 2027 feels like a long way off, three years between each movie worked well for the previous trilogy. Enough time must be taken to make sure that the sequel's story is a rewarding continuation and to continue advancing the motion capture work and cinematography that made Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes a visual feast to behold.
