Netflix animated series Kipo And The Age Of The Wonderbeasts has had a great run ever since it premiered in early 2020. It currently has a score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. The series—which was created by Radford Sechris—was adapted from a web comic of the same name. Three seasons have been released so far in 2020 alone.
Some of the things that have been singled out for praise in Kipo And The Age Of The Wonderbeasts are the song choices which stretch across several genres, the character development, the creativity in the plot and the representation of minority groups. Here are things you might have missed about the main characters.
Wolf's Real Name
Previously, Wolf's real name was unknown. The name ‘Wolf’ had been given to her by Kipo. It was thus not clear what name she used before that. Wolf also hadn't been referred to by her real name in the wolf family that she was adopted to.
However, in the eighth episode titled "Twin Beaks," Kipo briefly mentioned her name. Her names was "Wolfatha Christie The Fourth." Still, the origin of that name isn't clear. If she is indeed the fourth holder of the name "Wolfatha Christie," who held it before her? This will probably be revealed in future seasons.
Benson's Original Appearance Was Much Different
According to the first Deviant Comics concept art, Benson was a tall adult man with a beard. He also had yellow skin and carried his sword with him at all times.
In the series, Benson's appearance has been greatly altered. He is now a young boy of African decent. Even though his appearance is different in the series, much of the details about him in the original web-comic remain pretty much the same. This includes his close friendship with Dave.
Dave's Control Over His Appearance
In the first season, viewers noted how Dave kept turning buff only after the danger already ed and kept turning old during the worst possible moments. This either meant that he had no control of his buff appearance or he was cowardly.
However, after the events of the episode "Twin Beaks," Dave appears to be in much more control of his buff appearance. In that episode, he is able to turn his hand at will. And in later episodes, he turns buff when needed and returns to his normal state when the danger has ed.
Mandu's View Gets Used Occasionally
Some viewers might not have noticed that the series tends to be shown from how Mandu is seeing things. Since Mandu has two sets of eyes, the two horizontal split screens that are occasionally used are actually her point of view.
Given that Mandu's four eyes are all located at the front of her head, it would be easy to assume that she focusses on one thing at a time. This is not the case. Each set of Mandu's eyes is able to focus on two different things at the same time. This is an ability that Mandu has in addition to her enhanced smell.
The Inspiration Behind The Villain Scarlemagne
The character's behavior was influenced by Mozart in the 1984 film Amadeus and DC's Joker. As for his name, the inspiration came from the word "Scar" (due to the scars on his face) and "Charlemagne" (a French historical figure also known as Charles The Great who was known for his endless ambition).
Scarlemagne's powers are said to have been influenced by the Marvel villain Mandrill who has the ability to produce mind-controlling pheromones. The character was originally meant to be a bat-like vampire but the producers abandoned this idea since they felt that the idea of blood-sucking wasn't appropriate for a kids show.
Lio Might Have Been A Surface Dweller
In the first season, are were a couple of facts to back up the idea that Kipo's father Lio might have been a surface dweller at some point in his life. First, he has plenty of knowledge about astronomy. Burrow inhabitants would never have gotten this kind of knowledge since their environment is blocked from the open skies.

He also seems to know a lot about the Mega Monkey. Lio also manages to avoid triggering the Mutes while leaving several clues in Las Vistas. This implies that he knew the land very well.
Kipo's Age
From the pilot episode to the fifth episode titled "The Astronomers in Turtlenecks," Kipo is 12-years-old. From the sixth episode titled "Ratland," Kipo is 13-years old.
In that episode, it is revealed that Kipo's birthday is March 26. She was born at 2:00 am. This is why 26 is Lio's favorite number. Benson encourages Kipo to celebrate her birthday and in return, Kipo offers to always celebrate her birthday with Wolf since Wolf has no idea when she was born.
Mulholland's Real-Life Connection
Tard Mulholland's name and connection to water actually have real-life inspirations behind them. The city of Las Vistas, where Mullholland lives is based on Los Angeles.
Tard's character appears to have inspired by a real-life person who has a similar last name as his. William Mulholland was an Irish-American civil engineer who designed the aqueduct system of Los Angeles,. Mullholand's work enabled Los Angeles to become the biggest city in California and one of the biggest cities in the world.
Cappuccino's Abilities
The Brunchington Beach restaurant owner is conveniently called Cappuccino. She didn't like humans. But when Kipo protected her against Scarlemagne, she warmed up to humans and even began offering them free meals.
Cappuccino's knowledge is vast. She has details about everyone and everything in Las Vistas. Her memory is also superior to that of other characters on the show. She re people from over a decade ago, including what they were wearing. She was able to that Dave ate at her restaurant ten years earlier and left without paying.
Benson's Deejaying Skills
Benson has been an interesting character so far. Not only is he a great representative of the LGBTQ community but he is also very resilient. Stress seems to give him more strength rather than put him down.
Benson is also fond of music. He even knows how to use DJ equipment. He was seen doing so quite brilliantly in "Twin Peaks." Benson took on the role of the deejay during the racoon workout session.
