Four of Taylor Sheridan's TV shows came out with new seasons in 2024, but I'm convinced that All of Taylor Sheridan's shows offer something unique that makes them great. Whether it's the drama of Yellowstone, the action of Lioness, or the Western storytelling of Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Sheridan has made a name for himself as one of the best writers in television. Each one of his shows is almost guaranteed to be a hit, even when they all release shortly after one another.
As much as I love Sheridan's shows, they're not all created equal. The fact that four of his shows were released within just three months of each other makes it even easier to compare his acclaimed series. After watching all four, I'm pretty much convinced that Landman was the best of the bunch. The ending of Landman season 1 only made that clearer, as it had me on the edge of my seat for its entire 80-minute runtime. Now that they're all over, I can explain why I think Landman was Taylor Sheridan's best work last year.
All 4 Recent Taylor Sheridan Shows Explained
Landman, Yellowstone, Lioness, & Tulsa King All Got New Seasons At The End Of 2024
There were five new seasons of shows that Taylor Sheridan created in 2024, and four of them debuted within three months of each other. Tulsa King season 2 premiered on September 15, Lioness season 2 on October 27, Yellowstone season 5, part 2 on November 10, and Landman premiered on November 17. Since the ending of Tulsa King season 2 was released on November 17, there was a single day when all four of Sheridan's shows were releasing new episodes concurrently. It's by far the most of Sheridan's shows we've ever gotten at the same time, and it made it easy to compare all four.
Why Landman Is The Best Recent Taylor Sheridan Show
Landman Season 1 Was An Incredibly Strong Start & The Show Has A Few Advantages Over The Competition
Of the four Taylor Sheridan shows that came out at the end of 2024, I feel confident that Landman was the best. The ending of Yellowstone felt rushed and underwhelming for such a legendary, generation-spanning saga. Lioness season 2 was good, but it didn't live up to the quality or suspense of the first season. Tulsa King season 2 was probably the second-best of Sheridan's shows, especially after it added Neal McDonough and Frank Grillo as villains. Even though Sylvester Stallone gave a great performance and the show put forward an engaging story, Landman still has a leg up.

Taylor Sheridan is Paramount+'s biggest name, with numerous movies and shows available from the Yellowstone creator available on the platform.
It's not that the rest of Sheridan's shows were bad. I loved Tulsa King season 2 and the rest of the bunch, but Landman just had more spark to it. Billy Bob Thornton and the entire star-studded cast of Landman gave great performances, and Tommy's humor and wit blended perfectly with the dark focus on the oil industry. On top of that, Landman had such a well-crafted story complete with deep character development, interesting side plots, and fun and entertaining moments. Plus, Landman had the benefit of being a new series compared to returning stories, and it has so much potential for future seasons.
What's Taylor Sheridan Doing Next?
Taylor Sheridan Has Several Returning & New Shows & Movies On The Horizon
As good as it was, the ending of Landman season 1 left a Taylor Sheridan-shaped hole in many viewers' watch lists, myself included. Luckily, 1923 is getting a second season, and it will be released on Paramount+ on February 23. After that, Sheridan has a slew of continuing shows, new Yellowstone spinoffs, and even an original movie adaptation, in varying stages of development. It's only a matter of time until more of Sheridan's writing is ready to watch.

There is also a strong possibility that Landman season 2 could the list of Taylor Sheridan's confirmed projects. Paramount hasn't officially renewed the show yet, but based on how many streaming records it set and how much buzz it generated, the company will almost surely want to continue it. I, for one, can't wait to see Billy Bob Thornton step back into Tommy's cowboy boots, which is one of the many reasons I think Landman was Sheridan's best work at the end of 2024. If Landman season 1 is any indication of what Taylor Sheridan has in store, the future is very bright.

Set in West Texas, this series explores the world of oil rigs and the fortunes they create. It portrays a modern upstairs/downstairs narrative of roughnecks and billionaires, highlighting the profound impact on the climate, economy, and geopolitics in these boomtowns.
