The Last Kingdom's movie, Seven Kings Must Die, can still tell the book series' saddest story. With The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die set to wrap up The Last Kingdom's story, the Netflix original film represents the last chance to tell this story on screen.
Seven Kings Must Die's cast will largely consist of already established characters from The Last Kingdom, so it's easily feasible that the movie backtracks a bit to include this part of The Saxon Stories' plot. If Seven Kings Must Die wraps up The Last Kingdom in a way similar to the books, then this deeply sorrowful storyline will likely be included. However, The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die already has a lot to cover, and it may seek to end the series on a positive note, so there is no guarantee this storyline makes it into the film.
The Last Kingdom Movie Can Include Stiorra's Death
The powerfully sad moment that The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die can include is the death of Uhtred of Bebbanburg's daughter, Stiorra. In Cornwell's Saxon Stories, Stiorra dies before her husband, Sigtryggr, who was executed by Uhtred at the end of The Last Kingdom season 5. Stiorra is killed in the books by Sigtryggr's uncle, Skoll Grimmarson, when he lures Uhtred and Sigtryggr south before striking north at Sigtryggr and Stiorra's seat of power, Eoferwic.
With her husband and father's armies leagues to the south, Stiorra mounts a desperate defense against their attackers, but she is killed by Skoll and his son before Uhtred and Sigtryggr can reach her. This is a desperately sad moment for Uhtred, who loses a multitude of loved ones throughout the series. Uhtred experiences a horrible amount of grief from all the deaths he lives through, but few are felt so keenly as the death of Stiorra. Stiorra's death sends Uhtred on a vendetta against Skoll, which could make for a powerful spectacle if included in Seven Kings Must Die.
Why Stiorra's Death Can't Be The Same As The Books
If Stiorra dies in Seven Kings Must Die, it will have to happen differently than it did in the books because Sigtryggr dies in The Last Kingdom season 5. With Sigtryggr already dead, there would be no reason for his uncle, Skoll Grimmarson, to attack Stiorra. Moreover, the introduction of Skoll would probably take too much time to fit into Seven Kings Must Die, especially considering it does not tie directly into the story of Aethelstan's ascension, which is expected to be the focus of the film. Still, the death of Stiorra by some other method could be included as a final heartbreaking loss for Uhtred to bear.
