Comic book-based video games have been increasing in prevalence and quality over the past few years, and critically acclaimed swan songs last summer.
On top of rave reviews and chart-topping sales, The Last Of Us 2 cleaned house at the 2020 Game Awards, winning several categories including Game Of The Year, Innovation In Accessibility, and Best Performance for Laura Bailey as the tragic antagonist-turned-playable-character Abby. With this most recent success, fans are wondering what comes next for Naughty Dog, and Creative Director Neil Druckmann already has some enticing dream projects in mind for the future.
When asked by Greg Miller about which existing IPs he would like to make a video game about on the form of Daredevil, Wolverine, and even Full Metal Alchemist.
Druckmann isn’t the first Triple-A game director to weigh in on which comic book heroes he would like to adapt into video game form, as fighting an uphill battle to break even since its lukewarm launch in September.
While developers might be hesitant to create a Punisher game in light of recent controversies surrounding the character, both he and Ghost Rider would be great fits for Neil Druckmann’s team at Naughty Dog. Like The Last Of Us 2, both properties deal with flawed protagonists combating their enemies in a dark and violent manner, and a strong recurring theme among all three is that in a world filled with mutants and supernatural creatures, sometimes ordinary humans are the most sinister of monsters. Regardless of which character Naughty Dog would go with for their hypothetical Marvel game, the studio would surely bring the same level of quality and polish that elevated The Last Of Us 2 into one of the defining titles of the PlayStation 4 era.
