The Last of Us Part 2 released last year, and the game’s controversial story decisions angered some fans, but the game was still a big success. This was in no small part due to the fact that the key story moment in question was leaked about a month before the game’s launch. Despite these unfavorable opinions, TLOU2 still did incredibly well. It went on to win many Game of the Year awards. It is perhaps no surprise, then, that the series’ creative director Neil Druckmann is already looking ahead to The Last of Us Part 3's story.

The Last of Us is getting a remake, and is being adapted by HBO to become a television series. With the games’ popularity on the rise, it makes sense for Naughty Dog to bring new life to the original. It also makes sense that the team is looking to the future of the series with a new title. While it has been announced that Neil Druckmann has a story in mind for The Last of Us Part 3, the details of the story have not been shared.

It is important to note that while Druckmann is looking  at story, isn't in development yet. But since it has been confirmed that Druckmann wants to make another game in the series, it is interesting to think about where the story could go. The end of The Last of Us Part 2 wasn’t exactly overwhelmingly positive. Ellie just couldn’t let go of her grief or her rage, and it cost her everything. So, it would be nice to see things get better for her.

The Last Of Us Part 3 Should Conclude Ellie's Story

While TLOU games are known for being devastating, that doesn’t mean there can’t be a light at the end of the tunnel. There was no hint as to where Ellie is headed at the end of the game. She could be going after Dina to try to fix things with her, or she could simply being going back to Jackson. Ellie could even be going someplace entirely new. Following Ellie as she tries to find a way to use her immunity to make a cure would be an excellent way to continue the story and also bring the series full circle.

What The Last of Us Part 3 means for Ellie is one of the biggest questions. However, Abby’s story was also left up in the air. The next game could follow Abby and Lev as they try to find friends and allies, maybe those in San Francisco. As TLOU2 demonstrated, there are quite a few different groups of people still around. Following Abby could provide the opportunity to explore what the rest of society looks like so long after the epidemic first began. As far as her purpose, Abby just lost everyone she’s ever cared about. She will need to find a new place she can call home and new people she can call family. Perhaps on the way, they run into Ellie again, but this time, instead of trying to kill each other, they band together to try to find a cure.

The Last of Us Part 2 was an incredible game that will stick in players’ memories for a long time. The game series tends to have that effect, which explains why TV adaptations and remakes are happening. It is exciting to hear that Ellie’s story isn’t over just yet, even if the details are scarce. Whatever Naughty Dog decides to do with The Last of Us Part 3, it will certainly be just as gripping and heartbreaking as its predecessors.
