With 2 percent of the world's population vanishing into thin air, those left, search for answers to what exactly happened to their loved ones. Rapture? Black Hole? Voldemort? Since nothing can be ruled out, let's let the Sorting Hat decide who the villains and the heroes are of The Leftovers and where they would be placed if they went to Hogwarts.

Kevin Garvey: Slytherin

The main protagonist of the story, Kevin Garvey survived many attempts against his life. Some might conclude he is the Harry Potter of The Leftovers, the chosen one, who is appointed by fate to do its bidding.

Like Harry, Garvey seems to suffer from a hero complex as he is always going out of his way to save others and is always there when people need to be saved. His unhinged nature and past of being untrustworthy would make him a perfect candidate for Slytherin House. Despite its reputation, Slytherin is not intended solely for villains. Garvey's resourcefulness and ambition make him a good candidate for the House.

Matt Jamison: Gryffindor

Matt Jamison is a man who has never caught a break his entire life. He asked God for people to show him attention as a child and, instead, was given leukemia. When he was given the good news by the doctor and decided to go out for drinks, it ended up causing his wife to get into a wreck, since she was his designated driver. This accident that left her comatose.

Matt is a nice man who puts others before himself. Even when things don't go his way, it never shakes his faith. He would make a great Gryffindor.

Nora Durst: Ravenclaw

Nora's belief in logic over faith leaves her in quite a conundrum when people start vanishing. She refuses to hear any reasoning that the supernatural might have anything to do with it, even when it points in that direction.

Nora can have a very abrasive personality but most of this is due to the grief of losing her family. Deep down, she is a friendly person who only wants to get to the bottom of what is going on. She would make a great Ravenclaw as she puts logic over emotion.

Erika Murphy: Hufflepuff

Between Erika and her husband John, she is by far the wisest of the two. While he is lashing out, Erika prefers to be the mediator of any situation that involves anger. She has a mother's instinct and can't help but show this side when dealing with those younger to her.

Erika's constant acts of kindness and loyalty are what makes her a great character. Her stable and calm behavior when under stress is irable. With a strong sense of loyalty and an adherence to patience, Erika would make a fine candidate for Hufflepuff.

Laurie Garvey: Slytherin

Laurie Garvey listens to a book publisher in The Leftovers

Like Nora, Laurie tries to explain the disappearances that are taking place as not being of the supernatural kind. As a trained psychologist, she tries to explain away her husband's mental breakdown as something based in science, refusing to believe otherwise.

Laurie is kind of a hypocrite when she talks about openness but doesn't tell her husband about being pregnant. Laurie also has a habit of doing things that she tells others not to do. It is hard to place someone who has ed a violent cult into any house but Slytherin, even if Laurie did eventually leave the Guilty Remnant.

Lucy Warburton: Gryffindor

Lucy might seem bossy on the outside but, in reality, she just has an instinctive nature to take charge of any situation. She is confident in her abilities and proven herself to be capable.

Lucy is a political juggernaut, who can outmaneuver her opponents and do so with the utmost ease. Lucy doesn't like being aggressive but when called to do so, she is more than capable of holding her own. She would make for a great Gryffindor because of her ability to lead and control any situation she is faced with.

Meg Abbott: Slytherin

Like so many, Meg Abbott's grief was what sustained her after the Great Departure. Though, unlike others, whose family vanished into thin air, Meg's mom ed away leaving her feeling broken inside.

Meg's inability to move on with her life made her a target for the Guilty Remnant. After ing the cult, she became a brutal psychopath with a devotion akin to zealot-like status. Her ability to rise through the ranks of the cult and to plan efficient attacks on her enemies make her have the makings of a Slytherin.

Michael Murphy: Hufflepuff

Michael would be considered a saint when compared to his sister Evie. She has a sadistic, manic side that takes over, while, Michael is soft-spoken and kindhearted. Though, Michael isn't beyond revenge or murder.

An example of this is when he believes Kevin murdered his sister, causing Michael to promptly take part in Kevin's murder. Though it was more out of love for his sister than outright vitriolic hate. Michael's easy-going nature and effortless ability to get along with others who are different from himself would have him sorted into Hufflepuff House.

John Murphy: Slytherin

John is the polar opposite of his wife in almost every way. She is levelheaded, while his behavior is closer to a rattlesnake, once provoked he will strike without hesitation. He behaves like an anti-religious zealot, attacking anyone whether it be physically or emotionally that believe what is going on around them has to do with supernatural causes.

John's lack of belief in anything has caused him to do quite a few immoral acts, like burning down the house of a psychic or threatening supposed healers. His aggressive, impulsive behavior resembles that of a Slytherin.

Patti Levin: Slytherin

Patti Levin

As a person whose life revolves around a cult, it is no wonder Patti is willing to do whatever it takes to further her devout beliefs. Before The Departure, she was a victim of abuse, but when Patti wound up in a place of power as the leader of one of the Guilty Remnant's chapters, she ended up doing the same to others. Patti has a suicidal nature that possibly is behind her aggression.

Patti has a very unstable point-of-view about what is taking place around her, resulting in an unstable mindset that borders on depraved. She checks all the boxes for what makes a Slytherin tick.
