Warning: Spoilers for Legacies season 4, episode 15, "Everything That Can Be Lost May Also Be Found."

In the most recent episode of give Klaus (Joseph Morgan) a proper funeral and goodbye, and while that part was sincere, the Mikaelsons also used it as an excuse to stage an intervention with Hope (Danielle Rose Russell).

Hope has been, to put it charitably, wheels off since dying and becoming the Tribrid earlier in Legacies season 4. In order to deal with the pain of having killed Landon (Aria Shahghasemi) to complete her transformation, as well as putting Alaric (Matthew Davis) into a coma, Hope willingly shut her humanity off. It's not uncommon; vampires flipping their humanity switch has been a recurring plot point since The Vampire Diaries. The problem is that with her humanity off, Hope is worse than almost any vampire who had taken that same path before. To this point, however, every appeal to Hope's reason or emotion has fallen on deaf ears.

It's why the Mikaelson family, Hope's aunts, Rebekah and Freya, and uncles, Kol and Marcel, came together in Legacies to save their niece from herself. For months, audiences have guessed that it would be Landon to finally get Hope to turn her humanity back on, or maybe even Lizzie (Jenny Boyd). In the end, however, what got Hope to return to herself was the most fitting reason of all: her family. They did it with something equally as fitting, by reminding Hope of the Mikaelson family motto. "We love you, Hope," Freya said. "Always," added Marcel. "And forever," Rebekah finished. "Always and forever" is the vow the Mikaelson siblings had and have made to each other for centuries. It means that no matter how they fight, no matter what happens, family always comes first, and they will always love each other, forever.

The Mikaelson family after a fight with torn clothes and blood, looking at something.

For centuries, all the Mikaelson siblings had was each other; their father sought to kill them for being vampires and their mother betrayed them. Despite their dysfunction in The Originals, Rebekah, Klaus, Elijah (Daniel Gillies), Kol, and later Freya and Marcel, always found a way back to each other, no matter how many years or what anger had ed between them. By expressing their love with the Mikaelson family motto in the Legacies episode, the four older vampires reminded Hope that she was always loved and never alone. Just as they'd been there for one another over the centuries, they were there for Hope, always and forever.

For those who know the history of the Originals, really, there was no other way that Hope might have been saved. The story of the Mikaelsons was never about ruling New Orleans with an iron fist, or about gang warfare, or about incredible supernatural powers and weaknesses, not really. It was about a broken but fiercely loving family finding their way back to one another and figuring out what their places are in a life that, for them, doesn't end. As a Mikaelson, Hope is forever part of that family and that bond since the day she was born in The Originals. Hopefully, now that she re how much her family has sacrificed to keep her safe and secure, Humanity-off Hope return to her old self in Legacies.
