The trailer for The Legend of Ochi has arrived. The A24 movie is a whimsical fantasy adventure following a young girl who grew up in an island community that is terrified of monsters known as the Ochi. However, when she bonds with a baby Ochi, she vows to return it to its family, against the wishes of her monster hunter father and the terrified public. The cast of the movie, which was written and directed by Isaiah Saxon in his feature-length debut, includes Helena Zengel, Willem Dafoe, Emily Watson, and Finn Wolfhard.

A24 has now unveiled the official trailer for the fantasy adventure movie The Legend of Ochi. The trailer begins by introducing the picturesque island in the Black Sea where the movie takes place, highlighting the intensity of the hatred that the young girl's father (Dafoe) displays toward the creatures that plague the island.

However, she finds a way to communicate with the baby Ochi by putting in false fangs that mimic its species and thus embarks on an adventure that puts her at odds with everyone around her, as showcased by a sequence where the Ochi is spotted in her backpack in a grocery store, causing a general panic. What The Legend Of Ochi Trailer Means

A24 Continues To Push The Envelope

A shepherd looking over picturesque mountains in The Legend of Ochi

While A24 horror movies such as The Witch, Hereditary, Pearl, and Talk to Me tend to be the company's best-known releases, the trailer for The Legend of Ochi reveals that they are continuing to push the envelope in of the scope and genre of their releases. The independent studio typically focuses on low-budget titles, but more recently they released their most expensive movie yet, the $50 million dystopian movie Civil War.

Civil War, which was written and directed by Alex Garland, followed a military conflict in the United States in the near future and became the company's second highest-grossing release behind Everything Everywhere All At Once.

While A24 has dabbled in fantasy movies before, they have typically been smaller scale, high-concept productions such as the Nicolas Cage comedy Dream Scenario or the Daniels' offbeat debut Swiss Army Man. The Legend of Ochi seems to be more epic than anything they've attempted before in the genre, including David Lowery's Arthurian tale The Green Knight.

Our Take On The Legend Of Ochi Trailer

It's Still Firmly An A24 Movie

While The Legend of Ochi is taking a big step forward for A24, it still features many recognizable elements of their typical output. This includes the focus on small-scale, human-level stakes in the story, the whimsical nature of the world it creates, and the presence of Willem Dafoe, who has collaborated with the studio multiple times on projects including the Sean Baker drama The Florida Project and the Robert Eggers horror movie The Lighthouse.
