Players needing an additional boost in Similar to the Elixir cooking mechanic in Breath of the Wild, cooking Monster Parts with certain ingredients will instead yield potions with various buffs. As one may assume, the two different Monster Parts, specifically Monster Fangs and Monster Guts, can be obtained by defeating enemies across Hyrule.

Similar to Golden Smoothies, these potions will provide the maximum duration of their respective buffs, just without any additional healing. However, potions do not require the limited Golden Egg ingredient, meaning they are more readily available for anyone to craft. Here are all possible combinations of Monster Fangs, Monster Guts, and special ingredients for potions.

Monster Guts

Strong Buffs For Defense And Damage Resistance

Mixing potions with Monster Guts seems to provide the strongest defensive buff options between the two different Monster Parts. Depending on the secondary ingredient, potions can either negate environmental temperature damage or reduce damage taken overall. Each of these buffs lasts for a five-minute duration.

The Tough Potion is probably the best potion for general use when fighting enemies, and especially against bosses. It provides an overall 25% reduction in damage taken from any enemy, making this a strong defensive option. Additionally, potions, like smoothies, can also stack buffs with equipped items. As Austin John shows in his video, you can stack the Curious Charm, with 50% damage reduction, with a Tough Potion's 25% damage reduction for a full 75% reduction in damage, which is huge.

The Chilly Potion and Piping-Hot Potion each protect Zelda from taking any damage due to heat or cold in extreme temperatures. The Ice-Proof effect also provides additional protection from being frozen by enemy ice attacks, though Zelda does still take damage as normal. The Electro Potion similarly makes Zelda immune to electric damage.

Utility Potions & More

Monster Fangs are primarily used for potions aimed at utility, such as speeding up traversal when adventuring. Some also provide miscellaneous buffs that can be exceptionally useful depending on the situation. While not necessarily weaker than the Monster Guts recipes, they do cover different needs.

For some reason, the Warm Pepper can be combined with both Monster Guts and Monster Fangs to produce potions. However, the Chill-Proof effect of the Warming Potion is much less effective than the Piping-Hot Potion, only protecting Zelda from the temperature effects, not freezing.

If you're running low on Monster Guts, then this potion may be a better alternative, but it's simply less effective than the Monster Guts counterpart.

The Bubble Potion increases the amount of time in which Zelda can stay underwater, which is helpful in water-based dungeons. The Climbing and Rapid Potions both increase climbing and swim speed respectively for five minutes, helping Zelda traverse the environment faster. While the Echoes mechanic already helps a good bit, these potions can still provide a little extra boost to speed.

The last two potions are more situational, but can be useful. The Glow Potions makes Zelda emit a glowing light to help illuminate dark areas, which can be helpful at a few points in the game. The Twisty Potion allows Zelda to wind Automatons more quickly, lowering the amount of time she is vulnerable. However, it is still recommended to find a safe location from enemies before doing so.

What Not To Mix

Ingredients That Yield A Dud

Unfortunate Smoothie in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.
Custom Image by C.H. Casey

Echoes of Wisdom introduces its own version of Dubious Food in the form of Unfortunate Smoothies. These smoothies result from combinations of ingredients that are incompatible with one another, such as the Golden Eggs with Monster Parts. While there are many, many combinations for smoothies and potions, some just won't work.

The main ingredients that never work with either Monster Part are any ingredient that provides heart recovery, as potions are unable to do more than provide buffs. This means that all four basic ingredients, the Refreshing Grapes, Fresh Milk, Floral Nectar, or Rock Salt ingredients will result in the Unfortunate Smoothie. Additionally, Golden Eggs will yield the same result. However, certain combinations with specific Monster Parts also fail.

Certain ingredients only work with either Monster Guts or Monster Fangs, and will otherwise result in an Unfortunate Smoothie. Make sure to be careful and not accidentally waste ingredients! Monster Parts also cannot be combined with themselves, so don't worry about trying that either. However, almost every combination of smoothies and potions in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom will yield something favorable.
