Captain Krin debuts in the first issue of Valiant's The Legend of Zelda comics by George Caragonne, Rudy Nebres, and Rodney Ramos. He serves as the Captain of the Guard for the North Palace and thus has a sworn duty to protect Zelda and her father, King Harkinian. In addition to that fealty, he is depicted as someone Link can count on when he needs action to be taken promptly. For example, when Link finds out that Ganon has captured Impa and Zelda, he informs Krin of the situation. Without hesitation, the Captain ventures out with his guards to rescue the princess from peril.

However, while Krin is considered a companion to Link, he is loyal to the throne first and foremost. Therefore, if the situation calls for it, he would be willing to oppose the hero. This quality comes into play when Link charges into the throne room with a message for Zelda's father. Krin instructs his fellow soldiers to restrain Link, only to stand down at the king's request. Upon being asked why he'd done so, Krin says he'd feared that Link would attack. Captain Krin will fight by Link's side, but he also stands his ground when the king's life is potentially at stake.

Valiant Comics' Original Character Needs A Comeback in the Games

Captain Krin is precisely the kind of friend that Link should have in every rebirth cycle he undergoes. He'll gladly drop everything to help Link rescue Zelda, yet he won't follow him blindly and is capable of speaking his mind when their methods don't align. Unfortunately, Krin hasn't been incorporated into the neglected character's lore. Krin deserves to be integrated into a new installment of The Legend of Zelda as a member of Hyrule's royal guard, fighting on the princess' behalf once more.
