Gamers finally learned the title and release date of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for the Nintendo Switch is set for a May 12, 2023 release date.
One thing fans can expect Tears of the Kingdom to do that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild did is to both introduce new races and expand upon the already created ones within the kingdom of Hyrule. This may even extend beyond Hyrule, because Tears of the Kingdom promises to expand the world even farther.
The Twili Descended From Dark Beginnings
The Twili are the race at the center of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and fans are given two versions of them. Zant, the usurper, and his followers of shadow beasts are both corrupted Twili and other creatures. The other Twili consists of Midna, the rightful ruler of the Twilight Realm, and most of its citizens which are primarily peaceful.
The Twili's ancestors were much different from what they are in Twilight Princess and wielded evil magic as sorcerers. These ideals are upheld by Zant who utilizes his dark magic to try and consume all of Hyrule into the Twilight Realm.
The Gorons Resemble Dwarves
The Gorons are one of the more recognizable races in Hyrule and are known for their strong association with rocks and dwelling in the mountains beside or beneath volcanoes. These creatures possess tremendous strength that they take great pride in.
They are known for aiding the other people of Hyrule in building bridges or destroying large heaps of rubble that may block a pathway. In many ways, their race could be compared to the typical Dwarves of various Fantasy series due to their love of mountains, forgery, and mining.
Dragons In Hyrule Can Be Peaceful Or Dangerous
Dragons have been a recurring race in the Zelda games and can either be some of the toughest bosses in the game, as well as some of the best boss fights in The Legend of Zelda, or can be powerful allies. There has also been a trinity of dragons in Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild each representing a province of Hyrule.
These are two sets of different dragons and are very different from each other apart from representing the element of their region. Skyward Sword's trio aids Link by teaching him the Song of the Hero. Whereas the Breath of the Wild trio flies over Hyrule damaging anyone that comes too near, though striking a certain part of the dragon will give Link a useful item to strengthen his gear.
Lynels Are Some Of The Toughest Foes Link Has Faced
Lynels are some of the most fearsome foes that Link can come across in the games, especially in Breath of the Wild where they are some of the hardest enemies in the Legend of Zelda game. These creatures possess an extraordinary design that appears to be part man, part horse, and part lion.
Not only can they duel Link with expert swordsmanship, but they also have deadly combos with fire that blasts from their mouths and expert marksmanship with a bow. Breath of the Wild helped flesh this race out to be one of the most interesting enemies Link has ever faced, and many fans are hoping to see much more of them in Tears of the Kingdom.
The Sheikah Are Highly Intelligent As Well As Skilled In Battle
The Sheikah race has expanded into being a more interesting race throughout the years with Breath of the Wild fleshing the race out the most and making them a highly intellectual group of people that have created a plethora of advanced technology.
Their race is also heavily inspired by the ninjas of Japan as seen with characters like Impa and Zelda when she takes on the guise of Sheik. In Breath of the Wild, the Sheikah are primarily seen more in the realm of technology, however, the outcast Yiga Clan touches on the shinobi influences.
The Rito Evolved From Zora
The Rito are a race that appeared in two of the best Legend of Zelda games Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild. They are a race inspired by various birds and in Wind Waker are said to be an evolution of the Zora. In Breath of the Wild, they are masters of the wind and are experts with bows.
They prefer to live in high-up areas with possibly no preference for temperature. The Rito in Breath of the Wild live in a much colder climate due to their position in Hyrule whereas in Wind Waker live on Dragon Roost Island beside a volcano.
Demons Are Hyrules First Villains
As usual in games, the demons in Zelda are an antagonist race that appear frequently in the games. Often they are mentioned in the background when describing battles of the past like the hero spoke of in Breath of the Wild.
In Skyward Sword, there are a few more demon encounters with one of the best villains appearing, Ghirahim. His goal is to free his lord, another demon, Demise the first main antagonist of the franchise chronologically. While this foe is freed and defeated by Link in an impeccable battle, he is heavily implied to be reincarnated as Ganondorf.
The Hylians Are The Founders Of Hyrule
Without a doubt, the Hylian race is one of the most interesting in Zelda and features the primary characters of the franchise like Link and Zelda. The Hylians aren't too much different from regular Humans but originate from the sky and are the founders of Hyrule.
It's assumed that they possess far more normal strength than the average human due to the many impressive feats that Link can accomplish with usually no training. While many might attribute this to Link being the destined hero, it's important to that he isn't worthy because of his strength but because of his courage.
The Zora Are Hyrule's Major Aquatic Race
The Zora are a race of water-breathing people who bear heavy inspiration from aquatic creature — fishlike beings are some of the best NPCs in Legend of Zelda games. The Zora have created their own city called Zora's Domain which in most iterations is located just above a body of water, rather than underneath.
They are also expert warriors, excelling the most underwater or just above the surface of the water. Typically, they fight with spears or tridents, but the Zora are generally a peaceful group of people and only fight when they must. Though there are some groups of the Zora that are more aggressive and are considered outsiders by the peaceful of the race.
Gerudo Are Hyrule's Desert Tribe
The Gerudo are an (almost) all-female race. They are a desert people, warriors similar in many ways to the Aiel from the Wheel of Time. The Gerudo are known for beautiful craftsmanship and for thievery.
The Gerudo Desert is very similar to Egypt, with pyramids and other buried and worn architects. The Gerudo themselves are also similar to Amazons in how they are mostly a female race, for Gerudo rarely have male children. Their belief is that if a male child is born to a Gerudo woman, they must follow him as their king.
