As players approach Legends of Runeterra one of the first things to note is the sheer number of regions and characters available in the game. There are a total of 7 different regions in the game all of which are filled to the brim with different cards, playstyles, strengths, and weaknesses. Trying to comprehend each and every one of them is a difficult and frustrating task. However, with some guidance, these Regions can be explained in relatively simple terminology to digest and understand.

Explaining all of the Regions of Legends of Runeterra

Legends of Runeterra Twisted Fortune

Each region in Legends of Runeterra has a distinct playstyle that should be utilized to create competitively viable decks.

Demacia- The region of Demacia can be thought of as the "Well-Rounded" region. It contains a list of cards and champions that don't really create any complicated combos, but rather, when used correctly, simply dominate the board and tempo of the game. Typically Demacia decks utilize a mid-range playstyle, being wise with their trades and attempting to maintain board control. It is one of the few regions that are competitively viable without the use of other regions.

Freljord- Simply put, Freljord has two main playstyles, Frostbite control, and Poros. This region is considered by many to be one of the weakest in the game. However, that is not to say that it cannot display some powerful utility with its Frostbite spells and units. In the right hands, Freljord can be one of the strongest control decks in the game. Its secondary play style is incredibly weak, as Poros is an "all or nothing" style of play. Relying solely on placing a variety of Poros with different keywords and strengths all in hope to summon a Heart of the Fluff which assumes al these keywords and power, Poros is an inconsistent deck. Freljord is best served as a supplementary region to other more powerful regions.

Noxus- A difficult region to describe, Noxus has only one "main" playstyle and that is through the accumulation of burn damage. This burning archetype allows cards like Swain and Darius to establish their level-ups and makes dealing with Noxus a true pain. Noxus plays well with other burn archetypes or aggressive playstyles. It provides players a breadth of powerful spells that can remove pesky units off the board or annihilate a player's nexus.

Ionia- Another archetype that is rather limited in its role in a deck, Ionia decks serve as the main engine of many decks. These cards and champs play well with control decks given the power of cards such as Will of Ionia or Deny, they simply prevent your enemy from playing the game. With some powerful combos through the conjunction of Yasuo and other Stun decks, Ionia can easily wipe an established board. The major exception to this archetype is the popular champion Zed, who is mainly used for aggressive decks.

Bilgewater- One of the newest regions added to the game, Bilgewater possesses two of the strongest playstyles in the game. The first being Keg centered decks, that rely on the accumulation of Kegs to dish out powerful burn damage. Keg decks revolve around cards like Gangplank, Riptide Rex, and Miss Fortune. The second playstyle is considered by many to be one of the strongest decks in the game, and that is the Deep archetype. Deep is rooted in the act of "tossing" cards until you reach the last 15 cards of your deck. Then your different Deep Sea units will possess an additional +3 attack and health making them nearly impossible to deal with.

Shadow Isle- Shadow Isle contains a variety of different playstyles within their long list of cards. Everything from Ephermeal decks, Undying decks, Spider decks, and others, Shadow Isles is considered by many to be one of the most versatile regions in the game. With a variety of powerful champs, the Shadow Isles can be used as a supplementary region, a primary engine, or a useful two or three cards to improve a player's deck. Shadow Isles contain both a variety of simple to play decks and many that will require a firm understanding of the game mechanics to excel with.

Piltover & Zaun- Finally, the last region within Legends of Runeterra contains both the foundation for powerful but difficult decks or simple decks for new players. With a variety of champs, Piltover & Zaun decks will vary based on the champ a player decides to use. Decks utilizing Heimerdinger will mostly consist of control cards and setting up powerful robots to dominate the board and establish card advantage. Decks with IV will be more aggressive in their playstyle, involving overwhelming an enemy with your powerful units. Or decks using Teemo will be powerful Burn decks in which an enemy will be depleted of nexus through a variety of cards. This region is one of the most instrumental in a variety of decks, and these decks all are considered to be the very best in the game. This region will typically be the primary engine of a deck, this is due to its sheer versatility.
