SPOILERS for those not caught up on Legends of Tomorrow ahead.
-
The Legends go hunting for Blackbeard's long-lost treasure while their fearless leader, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), takes some personal time in the trailer and synopsis for the John Noble), judging by the demon's reaction to seeing newbie Legend Zari Tomaz (Tala Ashe) wearing the Air Totem in last week's midseason premiere, 'Daddy Darhkest'. It is also, unfortunately, the one Totem that's currently uned for, along with the mysterious sixth Totem.
It's certainly possible the sixth "Totem" is something else altogether; perhaps even a person like Sara, which could explain why Mallus seems so interested in possessing her. Whatever the case may be, Sara is taking a break next week to explore the possibility of a romance with Time Bureau agent Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan) - following their numerous flirtatious encounters - while the other Legends go hunting for the Earth Totem disguised as pirates in the 18th century. Elsewhere, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darville) has now caught up with Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) and could introduce Kid Flash to the Legends as soon as this week.

Based on The CW's trailer for 'The Curse of the Earth Totem' (see the video embedded above), Sara and Agent Sharpe's attempt to enjoy a romantic rendezvous will go south at some point, as the two can be seen gearing up to fight some as yet unknown enemy aboard the Waverider. Meanwhile, the other Legends seem to be having fun doing their best buccaneer impersonations and dropping Pirates of the Caribbean quotes, all while searching for a treasure that may or may not actually be the Earth Totem. For more on that, read the full synopsis for the episode below:
When Sara (Caity Lotz) decides to take some private time, the Legends pursue a lead on the whereabouts of the long-lost Earth Totem. Without Sara’s knowledge, the Legends find themselves in 1717 to hunt for Blackbeard’s long-lost treasure, but in true Legends fashion things go awry. Meanwhile, Ray (Brandon Routh) feels guilty about something he has done and tries to make amends, which lands him in even bigger trouble.
Sara and Ava aren't the only ones with romance on their minds in 'The Curse of the Earth Totem', judging by the quick shot of Amaya (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) and Nate (Nick Zano) rekindling their relationship in the episode's trailer. However, it seems reasonable to assume that things won't work out so easily for the pair this season, between Amaya's pressing destiny and her descendant Kuasa (Tracy Ifeachor) still running around and wreaking havoc, following her resurrection at Mallus' hands at the beginning of season 3.
All things considered, 'The Curse of the Earth Totem' seems to have all the ingredients (wacky time-travel antics, meaningful character development) to make for another entertaining installment in the Legends' ongoing adventures. Legends of Tomorrow may have started out as a spinoff featuring lower-tier superheroes from The Flash, but it has arguably evolved into one of the Arrowverse's best offerings over the past two seasons, thanks to its way it blends zany comedy with a sincere exploration of its characters' emotional trauma and baggage. Plus, with characters like Kid Flash and John Constantine ing the fun, it's also become the place for fan-favorite ing players to finally get their chance to shine.
