Warning: Spoilers for the Legends of Tomorrow season 7 finale.

Booster Gold's reveal in the finale of Legends of Tomorrow season 7 was a big moment for the show, but it, unfortunately, makes one particularly perfect DCEU team-up movie more unlikely. After teasing Booster Gold's appearing in the show through a rather suggestive casting announcement, Legends of Tomorrow has finally brought the time-traveling hero to the Arrowverse. Scrubs star Donald Faison was the one to bring “Mike,” a.k.a. Michael Jon Carter, a.k.a. Booster Gold, to life.

This is only Booster Gold's second live-action appearance, the first being in the final season of Smallville. Given the nature of Booster Gold's abilities and his personal connection to former Legends leader Rip Hunter, the hero's presence in Legends of Tomorrow always felt like something that would eventually happen. Even so, it took seven seasons for Booster Gold to the Arrowverse thanks to restrictions imposed by Warner Bros on the use of certain characters.

The fact that WB finally cleared Legends of Tomorrow to use the character means that neither a standalone Booster Gold movie nor a Booster Gold and Blue Beetle team-up movie as previously reported are likely still happening. As Legends of Tomorrow's co-showrunner Keto Shimizu explained in a previous interview, the reason Legends of Tomorrow (or the Arrowverse at large), despite having such a strong connection to the world of the show, was that Warner Bros. still had plans for the character in the movie universe. By finally allowing The CW to use Booster Gold, it's clear that, at least for now, WB does not intend to have the character in the DCEU. While this could be seen as good news for Legends of Tomorrow fans who finally got to see the character popping up on the show, a Booster Gold movie or a team-up with Ted Kord's Blue Beetle not happening in the DCEU is a bummer.

Booster Gold appearing in the DCEU has been discussed for quite some time. Back in 2016, it was reported that Arrowverse creator Greg Berlanti was working on a film about the character and that it would exist Blue Beetle movie, but featuring the Jaime Reyes iteration instead of Ted Kord.

The relationship between the CW series and the DCEU movies has always been a little complicated. There have been many cases where Arrowverse shows have had to drop characters, storylines, or even entire projects due to Warner Bros. having bigger plans for some of the DC Comics characters. That's why the Suicide Squad never showed up on Arrow again, and why Deathstroke would often go missing for so long.

As much as it is exciting to see Booster Gold in live-action again, his role in Legends of Tomorrow all but closes the door for other opportunities to see him on the big screen for the first time. As it has happened with many other DC characters, being on the Arrowverse and in the DCEU are often mutually exclusive. Fans of Booster Gold can now only hope that Legends of Tomorrow returns for season 8 with more of the time-traveling hero.
