Following the announcement of mod brought character customization to LEGO Skywalker Saga just weeks after the game's release.

LEGO Star Wars' Galactic Edition Further Wastes Potential

LEGO Star Wars

Having a customizable character be a constant throughout three generations of The Skywalker Saga would have allowed players to fully imagine their own Star Wars adventures, and a special mode that was similar to DC Super-Villains could have created this experience. In Super-Villains, as a character progressed through the story, they'd gain stronger powers and abilities - which could have added interesting gameplay mechanics and story progression to The Skywalker Saga if the player character were a Jedi. In Traveller's Tales' next title, should it be Star Wars again or a change of focus to a new LEGO game franchise, the developers should put effort into allowing the players to imagine their own adventures and create memorable, personal stories.

Considering the potential and desire for custom characters in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was so clear from fans, even prior to launch, it bears questioning whether the odd omission was justified. All the developer has mentioned in regard to omitting the fan-favorite feature is a short statement from the TT Games Twitter , a clarification on a statment made years prior when the game was announced. It would seem that character customization was intended to be a feature during development in 2019, but was cut in light of the game's already extensive roster.

One possible reason for the non-inclusion of the beloved feature is that Traveller's Tales experienced obvious crunch developing LEGO Skywalker Saga, or that focus was moved towards creating a more pure Star Wars title. Regardless, the eventual decision from the LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga developer has left a bitter taste, and moving forward, the series should put priority towards customizable characters and listening to players wishes.
