Now that all nine of the Star Wars films originally envisioned by George Lucas have been released, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be able to tell an even more complete story than LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, which only spanned the first two trilogies. The Skywalker Saga will be focused specifically on the Force-sensitive family at the center of the Star Wars films, and Rogue One.
Fans already got their first look at LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga last year, when its announcement trailer was released, and now the game’s key art gives another glimpse into the multi-generational saga that will unfold in the game. The new art from Traveller's Tales shows a scene from the Clone Wars on Geonosis that began in the prequel trilogy and the Battle of Hoth from the original trilogy, with Rey, Finn, BB-8, and Kylo Ren representing the final installments of the series. According to Traveller's Tales, players will get the chance to control characters drawn from both the heroes and villains of Star Wars, including Luke and Leia Skywalker, Kylo Ren, and Darth Vader. Traveller's Tales says the game will be available some time this year.
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga will be the first video game to cover the entire Star Wars saga and the first game based on the final two films. Characters from the final trilogy including Rey and Kylo Ren have shown up in other Star Wars games, though. Over the past few years, steady stream of updates for Battlefront 2 has finally come to an end with its 26th content pack. A new Battlefront game is expected to debut next year, so it’s likely that players haven’t seen the last of the cast from The Rise of Skywalker in video game form.
While their kid-friendly appearance and light tone may not be for everyone, early impressions of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga are anything to go by, it may even be the best one yet.
