Digital artist BossLogic has shared some amazing fan art showing what Terry Crews might look like as King Triton in Disney’s live-action remake of Halle Bailey - a woman of color - had been cast as Ariel.

That sparked a depressingly predictable racist backlash from some of the close-minded Disney fans out there who took issue with the fact Ariel won’t be played by a white redhead. Most Disney fans, however, were pleased that fan art he recently shared showing him rather crudely photoshopped onto the cartoon body of King Triton from the 1989 animation.

Now, thanks to Bailey might look like as Ariel, and what Crews’ contender Idris Elba could look like as King Triton.

Both Crews and Elba look like they’d make for a formidable King Triton, but at the moment it’s all just wishful thinking, unfortunately. Whoever does end up nabbing the role of King Triton will be in good company. Alongside Bailey, a host of talented actors are Room’s Jacob Tremblay.

With almost a year to go until The Little Mermaid even starts production, it could be quite a while before Disney fans learn who'll play King Triton. Whether Crews gets the role or not, whoever does will instantly have big expectations to meet from the dedicated Disney faithful. Luckily, The Little Mermaid is one of many live-action Disney remakes, so at least there’s the likes of Mulan for fans to look forward to in the meantime.
