Liza Minnelli’s exceptional life is set to become a television series as Warner Bros. partners with Magnolia Hill Productions to adapt her memoir. The iconic entertainer, celebrated for her career-defining role as Sally Bowles in Bob Fosse's Cabaret and her talent as a dancer and singer, will release her memoir in 2026. The book will chronicle Minnelli’s remarkable journey, from growing up on old Hollywood movie sets as the daughter of Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli to her personal battles with substance abuse and her rise as a trailblazing figure in entertainment.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. is partnering with Magnolia Hill to bring Minnelli’s memoir to the small screen. The book itself has been in the works for 15 years, based on recorded conversations between Minnelli and longtime collaborator Michael Feinstein, alongside journalists Josh Getlin and Heidi Evans. Magnolia Hill’s Sam Haskell, who previously represented Minnelli at William Morris, will oversee the project. Minnelli expressed her excitement in a statement:
I am beyond excited to work with Sam Haskell of Magnolia Hill Productions and Warner Bros. Television on bringing my story to life in this special way. Sam has been a dear friend and an invaluable part of my professional life, and I couldn’t think of a more fitting collaborator for this incredibly personal project. I can’t wait to share my story with the world.
I would not trust this story with anyone besides Sam. My belief was always ‘Tell it when I’m gone! [Substance use disorder] isn’t about willpower or strength. It’s about the wiring of our brains; it is about how genetics impact our lives and the lives of those we love; and it is now time to remove shame and stigma. I’m grateful to experience longevity by working on recovery every day of my life.
