Sorry, Lois Lane has been outright crowned the most powerful woman on Earth by DC. However, this major promotion for the Daily Planet Editor-in-Chief comes with a twist that will redefine readers’ understanding of what true power means in the DC Universe.

DC has dropped a three-page preview for its May 3, 2025, release of Free Comic Book Day 2025: DC All In / Absolute Universe Special Edition #1. This preview focuses specifically on Dan Slott and Rafael Albuquerque’s Superman Unlimited side of the flipbook and will serve as a prelude and special zero issue installment of the forthcoming Superman Unlimited series.

While the preview is only three pages, it makes a bold proclamation by declaring Lois Lane the “most powerful woman on Earth.” This new title for Lois is thanks to a game-changing expansion of the Daily Planet, giving the Editor-in-Chief an unprecedented amount of worldwide influence.

The preview for this prelude kicks off with a major shift for the Daily Planet, as Editor-in-Chief Lois Lane makes an announcement concerning an unprecedented expansion of the newspaper. Lois reveals that the Daily Planet is expanding into an all-new media empire, with branches in all major cities, “from Gotham to Themyscira.” They will also be expanding their oversight to include managing four 24/7 cable channels and fact-checking three of the top five social media platforms. Hence, this marks a major shift in Superman lore, as the Daily Planet takes on a whole new role in the DC Universe.

Lois’s announcement is made alongside Imani Edge, who Lois introduces as the woman making this expansion possible and their “patron saint.” Imani is a billionaire and owns her own media empire. Hence, it is her funding and this merger that is allowing the Daily Planet to expand worldwide and in such a major way so quickly. Despite being the money behind the operation, Imani reassures the staff of the Daily Planet that she plans to be a silent partner, with all final decisions being made by Lois. Imani then turns to the Editor-in-Chief and asks, “What do you say, Lois? With one handshake you’re about to become the most powerful woman on Earth.”

Some readers may be rolling their eyes at Imani declaring Lois Lane the most powerful woman on Earth, believing it to be hyperbole. However, Imani’s statement is completely valid. As the comic itself points out, one of the biggest threats in the modern world is misinformation, the spread of false information that often comes with serious consequences, such as a misinformed populace. The spread of misinformation, which can and often is done through social media and the media itself, can essentially control an entire population by influencing their perception of what the truth is.

Hence, with Lois being at the head of what is soon to be a worldwide empire, she will hold an unparalleled amount of power when it comes to what information and knowledge the population of Earth receives. She will essentially control the narrative of major events that are fed to the people of Earth. This type of power could be exceptionally dangerous in the wrong person's hands. Luckily, Lois, along with the Daily Planet, has always been committed to truth and justice, meaning it is more than likely that Lois will rise to the great responsibility that comes with such great power.

Superman Unlimited 1 COVER

The expansion of the Daily Planet doesn’t just mark a promotion in power for Lois Lane; it brings a wave of changes to the DC Universe as a whole. First and foremost, DC has opened the door for the Daily Planet to play a bigger role in their narratives beyond Superman, without making future inclusions of the newspaper feel forced. Now, with its worldwide reach and presence in all of Earth’s major cities, the Daily Planet’s influence will feel natural and expansive. Beyond what was revealed in the FCBD special, Dan Slott’s interviews have also shed light on more of what fans can expect.

One of the most notable revelations from Slott is that Jimmy Olsen will be heading to the Gotham City branch of the Daily Planet. This means that a character usually confined to Superman’s stories will likely play a major role in someone else’s. This idea is further ed by the fact that Jimmy will be given a Bat-Signal watch to call Batman in times of need. It’s safe to say that the Daily Planet’s expansion across Earth will also bring about new character dynamics, including interactions between characters who don’t typically cross paths.

Does Lois Lane's New Promotion Really Make Her More Powerful Than Wonder Woman?

Wonder Woman vs. Lois Lane may sound like a silly proposition, given that Lois’s power is of the pen, while Diana’s is of the sword. However, as DC’s recent narratives have proven, the pen is indeed mightier than the sword. This is particularly well seen in Tom King’s Wonder Woman run, where the villainous Sovereign manages to turn the whole world against Diana and her Amazons using the media, leading to worldwide persecution. Likewise, Diana eventually enlists Clark Kent’s help, who uses his platform at the Daily Planet to expose the Sovereign for the villain he is. Hence, it is undeniable that Lois Lane holds unprecedented power, making the description of her as the most powerful woman on Earth exceptionally accurate.
