WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for Loki episode 5.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe may have revealed a huge twist at the end of Gugu Mbatha-Raw's Ravonna Renslayer reveals that the Time Variance Authority's pruned branch realities aren't actually destroyed. They are sent to a void at the end of time, which is where Tom Hiddleston's Loki winds up after being pruned. Thinking the villain responsible for the TVA is beyond the void, Sophia Di Martino's Sylvie prunes herself and reunites with Loki. According to her, Alioth, a giant cloud monster roaming the void, is guarding the only way to the person controlling the TVA, and she sets out to enchant it so she can through.

Time-traveling villain Kang the Conqueror is set to appear in Loki has been hinting Kang could arrive even sooner. Renslayer, the character seemingly carrying out the Time-Keepers' orders, is Kang's love interest in the comics, perhaps signaling that she's been helping Kang all along. Also, other Kang Easter eggs, such as the logo of the TVA bearing a resemblance to the Marvel villain, continually show up throughout the series. Loki episode 4 massively added to the hints, showing that the Time-Keepers are robots, and someone else is controlling the TVA.

Loki episode 5 has the biggest hint to Kang yet, revealing a lair that may belong to the time villain. In the episode, Sylvie has a vision of a fortress after touching Alioth, which sparks her plan to enchant the creature. After Richard E. Grant's Classic Loki creates a distraction, both Sylvie and Loki successfully bewitch Alioth, and the cloud monster parts. In the monster, Sylvie sees the building from her vision. It looks like a castle, and it possibly belongs to Kang.

Loki Episode 5 Ending

There are a number of clues suggesting that this is Kang's Citadel. In the comics, Kang the Conqueror's headquarters is located in Chronopolis, a city built by Kang that exists outside of time in Limbo. This allows the villain to access the different time realms he conquers. Kang appreciates a quality castle, so the fortress may fit all of his time-transcending homeowner requirements. In addition to the castle that appears to exist outside of time, Alioth also has strong connections to Kang. In the comics, the creature is even more powerful and serves as a reason Kang doesn't continually expand his empire. It's Kang's enemy, not his guard dog. With the mysterious castle and the presence of another Kang-connected entity from the comics, it's reasonable to assume the structure shown in Loki is Kang's Citadel.

While the hints are evident, Loki episode 5 doesn't make anything definitive. The castle in the void also has a resemblance to Castle Doom, the medieval-style home of Doctor Doom. With a Fantastic Four movie already announced at Marvel, the classic villain could be in line to make his debut. There's also the possibility that a Loki variant is behind it all. After all, the God of Mischief's philosophy, which includes liberating people from making choices, makes Loki aligned with the mission of the TVA. Since Loki is a series all about the God of Mischief, all fans should truly expect is deception.
