The group that is put together within the first film to take the ring to be destroyed is full of different personalities and skills, and they are followed throughout each movie. While they don't manage to stick together throughout the trilogy, their adventures are what makes the films so great. Everyone connects to different characters, but which of the Fellowship are the most likable?
Boromir
The only character who doesn't manage to make it past the original movie within the Fellowship also just happens to be the least likable. Boromir was an incredibly arrogant man and while he was certainly very talented with a sword and did end up being caring, there were also points where he was incredibly rude to others.
It was clear that Boromir wanted to get his hands on the ring and went at all costs to make that possible. He was over the top with his aggression at points and happily frustrated Aragorn as well, which made him fairly unlikeable until the end when he showed his true character.
Frodo Baggins
For some people, Frodo Baggins might be much more likable, but to a lot of people, Frodo becomes very annoying as the movies progress. Granted, he is put under a lot of strain and he is becoming possessed by the power of the ring, but he becomes very snappy and angry.
The way he treats Sam is something that angers a lot of people, choosing Gollum over his best friend, despite Sam's loyalty. His decision to go off alone at the end of the first film is also an odd one, and overall he just doesn't show the same warmth as other characters.
Gimli
Gimli is a lot of fun throughout all three movies, bringing a sense of joy and comedy at points, especially through his friendship with Legolas. However, the dwarf doesn't quite get the same personal attention in his own journey as most of the other characters do.
Because of that, it is harder for people to connect with his character, which is why he isn't quite as well-liked as others within the Fellowship. However, there's no denying he's part of many hilarious moments and he is a true warrior.
Merry Brandybuck
Merry Brandybuck is a charming character who is often in a very positive mood. He's loyal and helpful and doesn't really put a foot wrong. However, out of all the Hobbits, he does get the least attention, which is why he slips further down the likability list.
But, his underdog storyline of wanting to fight no matter what is something that all audiences can get behind, and that makes him a really popular character overall. People can easily connect with him as he happily puts his life on the line to go into battle, which makes him such a great character.
Legolas
Legolas is incredibly skilled when it comes to fighting and a lot of the things he does are very unique and different, which makes him so much fun to watch. He's a terrific character who is incredibly kind to everyone throughout all three movies and that makes him popular.
Unlike some of the other characters, his background isn't really delved into quite as much, with this mainly taking place in The Hobbit. He can be quite quiet and reserved in comparison to some of the others, but he also has a lot of fun with the likes of Gimli, which is why he's so likable.
Gandalf
It's impossible not to love Gandalf really, isn't it? He's the ultimate good guy and someone who has time for everybody, doing his best by each character to provide counsel and help where possible. Gandalf is the wisest member of the Fellowship and the person who really does guide the group at points.
While he can get cross and lose his temper, that rarely happens and when it does, it's normally justified by the behavior of others. However, for the most part, Gandalf is a calm and kind person and someone that audiences absolutely loved.
Pippin Took
Speaking of someone that Gandalf takes under his wing, Pippin Took is someone that he really cares for and helps at points. The young Hobbit shows all kinds of emotions over the course of the trilogy, and that is why he is such a fantastic character.
He is someone who can have a lot of fun and be quite cheeky at points which brings some moments of levity in the franchise, but he also has a lot of really emotional moments as well where he is a big underdog character too. This is why he's so likable as he does everything from the heart.
Aragorn
While Frodo is supposed to be the main hero of the story, it really was Aragorn who came away from the trilogy as just that. The reason for that was how popular he was, with Aragorn being incredibly likable due to how down to earth he came across, never bragging about his abilities and always staying humble.
It's hard not to like someone who is as heroic as Aragorn really, especially when they're not over the top with it. He takes his leadership role well when it comes to battle and he is always happy to make the tough decisions and be brave from the front, making him very likable indeed.
Samwise Gamgee
Nobody in the Fellowship, or the entire trilogy for that matter, is more likable than Samwise Gamgee. He's the ultimate best friend who never lets Frodo down throughout the entire journey. No matter what happens, what gets said to him or what hurdles are thrown in his way, Sam always comes through.
Without him, the ring would likely never be destroyed and his bravery really is amongst the greatest in the film. Sam is just so charming, as he has no real skills for a quest like this, yet he never complains and just gets on with whatever is asked, which is why he's so popular.
