During today's EA Play Live, viewers got an in-depth look at Lost In Random, an action game with aesthetics that evoke the work of Tim Burton. The game's dark world and eerily whimsical character designs evoke numerous products from the acclaimed director, including Corpse Bride and Beetlejuice. The title was one of several games that got air time during EA's livestream.

EA Play Live is a games conference that shows Electronic Arts' (EA) new and games. This year, the conference was completely digital due to COVID-19 restrictions. The conference spent a lot of time on established EA franchises, but also gave plenty of time for lesser known titles like Lost in Random. Arguably, the two biggest announcements were a remake of Apex Legends.

Developed by Zoink!, Lost in Random tells the story of Even, a young girl traveling through the world of Random to rescue her sister. A new gameplay trailer, published to YouTube by classic games like Slay the Spire, which will augment the results of Dicey's rolls. The EA Play Live also furnished prospective fans with a release date of September 10th, 2021.

Lost In Random seems to show strong influences from Tim Burton, while the antagonistic Queen who steals Even's sister seems reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland and its many adaptations. However, the focus and importance of dice and the style of gameplay make this game stand out on its own. Random chance is a risky feature for a video game, but the deckbuilding mechanic should give Lost In Random an edge. The trailer also featured RPG mechanics and NPC interactions, which will likely expand the scope of the project quite a bit.

Visual influence from the works of Tim Burton is quite evident throughout the footage shown during this showcase, but the gameplay shown will likely make sure that Lost In Random will stand on its own two feet. Though games like Battlefield tend to more commonly receive mainstream attention, EA is showing an irable level of commitment to independent developers like Zoink. Hopefully this commitment will pay off when Lost In Random releases this fall.
