The Australian reality dating show Jimmy and Sharnae (both of whom – spoiler alert – were engaged by the end of the show), the real focus is on singles looking for love.
The show is touching, heartwarming, and sweet, demonstrating how difficult it is for those on the spectrum to find a partner as well as how they have the same desires everyone does. The five episodes show plenty of dates take place, and here's how they rank.
Chloe And Marcus
While every date on the show was pretty awkward given the singles' difficulty with social interactions, Chloe and Marcus' meet-up took the cake. Meeting outside on a rooftop patio, they instantly started chatting thanks to Chloe's outgoing nature and the fact that, unlike many of the others, she has dated before.
Chloe is openly bisexual, and when she disclosed this, Marcus' decided to reveal that he once questioned his own sexuality. But after watching gay pornography, he realized he was into girls. Chloe didn't seem too taken aback by his oversharing of such personal information, but the date turned out to be a dud as they had little in common.
Olivia And Christopher
The date started off badly when Christopher was half an hour late. They shared some conversation while chomping on burgers and fries, but it was clear they were too different from one another. Christopher loves dogs and Olivia seems terrified of them.
The nail in the coffin for them, however, was when Christopher flat out told Olivia there was no spark between them. She didn't seem to take offense to it, but nonetheless, the date was among the worst on the show.
Olivia And Thomas
He seemed taken by her and her voluminous red hair and lively attitude. But Olivia didn't seem very interested in him. Perhaps it was his strict hair care regimen? Or the fact that he initiated a romantic outdoor dance that led to her believing he was making fun of her movement disability?
The date went from decent to not so great pretty quickly and Olivia turned down his offer for a second date.
Mark And Maddi
The funniest moment came on this date when the bill arrived and Mark suggested they split it. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, but even Maddi seemed surprised. However, the date itself was sweet as Mark showered her with compliments and brought her flowers and chocolate – a nice touch since it was Valentine's Day.
While there was some hope after date one, it was clear after the second date that they weren't meant for one another. Mark bored Maddi with endless facts about dinosaurs and they realized they'd be better as friends.
Andrew And Carli
Meeting up to play lawn balls, it was super sweet to watch Andrew use his cool James Bond swagger to help her improve her technique in the game, then cheer her on when she did a good job. He did a great job of keeping the conversation flowing as well.
But Carli didn't seem ready for a relationship, noting that she had just gotten out of one. She told producers she'd have to check with her parents before seeing him again, but he seemed to pick up on the fact that she needed some space to get over her previous beau before dating again.
Olivia And Jackson
They seemed to instantly hit it off, discovering they're both from the same area in town and share a mutual love of video games. They talked a lot about their autism and how it impacts them and their lives while Olivia opened up about the difficulty in diagnosing girls versus boys.
Jackson wasn't even phased when Olivia accidentally let out a loud belch (interestingly, she did the same on her previous two dates!) and told her she was lovely. They went to a pottery class together after drinks then exchanged numbers and even a hug. But after two more dates, they decided to just stay friends.
Kelvin And Jessica
Enjoying a Teppanyaki dinner together, the two initially got off to a rough start when Jessica immediately broke out the Nintendo Switch so they could play together at the table instead of talk. But they soon started to have some good conversation and enjoy the show and food.
Things got awkward, however, when Jessica overheard Kelvin's interview on camera interview after walking back to the table from the bathroom and corrected him (she does like manga, she just likes video games better!) At the end, she made it clear to him he shouldn't expect a kiss and revealed that she was just not that into him romantically because, well, he isn't good at video games.
Mark And Lauren
These two seemed to hit it off and share good, flowing conversation as they toured around the zoo together, looking at and learning about animals. Sure, it was mostly Mark talking about all of the facts he knows about them. But Lauren seemed to take his talkative nature in stride and showed her wonderful sense of humor when she joked about hiring an elephant to things for her since she has no short-term memory.
They apparently went on another date and there's no word yet on whether there could potentially be a third, but it seems Mark has his fingers crossed for one.
Maddi And Severin
A true romantic, Severin sat down at the piano in the pub and played the Skyrim video game theme song for Maddi. Queue the awwws. She seemed to really love it and was thoroughly impressed at his musical skills.
Sadly, while he liked the fact that she was nerdy like him and Maddi found Severin very interesting after their first date, apparently they did go on another date but it didn't work out.
Chloe And Lotus
These two seemed to have the best connection among all of the singles. Both initially unsure of how the other felt, it turns out they were both smitten with one another. They had an adorable coffee date followed by a walk through a field where they picked sunflowers and giggled away like schoolgirls.
Sadly, it was revealed after the show that while Chloe and Lotus met up again, Lotus didn't feel she was ready for a relationship and things ended. But they had the most chemistry and the best chance of actually sharing a blossoming romance.
