HBO Max has created a series that is like no other.  Its array of characters and an all-star cast made this must-watch television on Sunday nights. Even though at times, fans did not know or understand what they were watching. Excitingly confused, fans anticipate what the next episode had to offer. But when the season finale, "Full Circle" was over, there were more questions than answers.

Who is the Black Shoggoth?

Black Shoggoth and Jonathan Majors as Atticcus Freeman in Lovecraft Country

A fictional monster in the Cthulhu Mythos, there has been a lot of conjecture concerning the black shoggoth's existence. Some viewers believe the black shoggoth is Ji-Ah. But, in the season finale, Ji-Ah was attending the ritual while the black shoggoth was protecting Dee as she was being attacked in the car while reading her future cousin/brother's paperback book, Lovecraft Country.

Another belief is that it could be Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) reincarnated. During the attack in front of Leti’s house in episode 8, “Jig-a- Boo", the shoggoth attacked and killed everyone but saved Tic from a bullet. The shoggoth got close enough to smell and drool on Tic but never attacked him.

What About The Baby?

Jurnee Smollet-Bell and Jonathan Majors as Atticus and Leti in Lovecraft Country

We know that George (Tic’s and Leti’s baby) became a well-known author. This is evident as viewers witness his face on the paperback that Tic is carrying. But how did he get there? It seems to be different versions of the future and its outcomes. A kaleidoscope of events.

Maybe because Montrose (Michael Kenneth Williams) was such a bad father to Tic, he would be a much of a better father figure to his grandson. With Atticus's death, given the history of himself, his father, and his brother, Montrose may have been the inspiration for him becoming a great author.

How Did Leti Come Back To Life?

Leti in the back seat of a car in Lovecraft Country

Using the potion of metamorphism, Christina took the shape or form of Ruby (Wunmi Mosaku) and fooled Leti.  They draw symbols using blood on the watchtower to complete the binding triangle.  Before they went to the bridge, Christina lets Ruby in on her secret of metamorphism and Leti realized that she had been duped  A fight ensued and Christina threw her off the tower, falling to her death.

With a deep exhale, Leti came back to life pulling up her shirt bearing the Mark of Cain. But did not Christina remove the invulnerability spell that was previously protecting her?  Did Christina give it back to her and if so, Why?

Who Is The Real Father Of Atticus Freeman?

Michael Kenneth Williams and Courtney B Vance as Montrose and George Freeman in Lovecraft Country

In the season finale, Tic was being lured to the castle by the Order of the Ancient Dawn. They want to use him (his blood) to open the garden of immortality. Atticus is a true descendant of Titus Freeman (Michael Rose) and the son of George Freeman. Or was he?

After the Tulsa Massacre, viewers discover that both Montrose and George had an arduous relationship with Dora (Erica Tazel). During a magic spell, a younger Dora was dancing with George and tells him that he could fly with his children, meaning more than one. Uncle George is dead. Who can confirm the story of parenthood that is questioned when Tic, Leti, and Montrose go back to the future? As Montrose told his son that they were very close-knit and had a bond that he would not understand.

Where Did Dee Get That Arm And Pet?

Jada Harris and Abbey Lee as Dee and Christina in Lovecraft Country

Poor Dee Freeman (Jada Harris), the daughter of George and Hippolya (Aunjanue Ellis). The science-fiction/graphic novel extraordinaire had a tough time of it this season.  She was chased by Topsy and Bopsy a scary version of Raggedy Ann and Andy. After they attack her, she remained in a coma until Tic and Leti used a spell to bring her out of it.  But it left her left arm virtually useless.

In "Full Circle", we witness Dee with a robotic arm and a pet Shoggoth.  It seems her innocence has been stripped away as she finds Christina begging for her life.  Dee unveils her new arm, telling her, “You still haven’t learned.” Then she choked the life out of her and snapping her neck.

Is Ruby Dead?

Ruby looking serious in Lovecraft country

There are myths about deaths on television. For example, if the character dies in slow motion, then usually that character is truly dead. Similar to a character that dies offscreen (viewers hear of the death but never witness it) then the character’s chances of survival are greater.

Christina may have left Ruby in a coma like her father. , she had a fascination with trying to feel what it was like being black as attested with the Emmit Tills role play that went terribly wrong. She hoodwinked everybody as Ruby. But killing her? She truly loved her too much even if she felt like Ruby betrayed her.

Will Uncle George Return?

Courtney B Vance as George Freeman in Lovecraft Country

After getting killed off the series so soon, viewers struggle with the patriarch’s death. Gone to soon? But is George gone for good?  Fans got a glimpse of his return when Hippolyta went to a parallel universe and another version of George Freeman was presented. Hippolyta got the new version to take a “space-cation” with her as she traveled the universe.

Fans became excited wondering if she will bring Uncle George back with her?  But disappointment set in when she returned but not with her new husband, but alone.  Now that it is known that a version of Uncle George is out there, it is almost certain that fans will see him again.

Is Christina Dead?

Abbey Lee as Christina in Lovecraft Country

Christina (Abbey Lee) the daughter of Samuel Braithwhite, the leader of a cult-like secret organization, was the primary antagonist in Lovecraft Country. She did anything to achieve absolute power. Christina even seduced Leti’s sister, Ruby, to get her to get the Book of Names to gain the power she sought.

During the spell ritual, Christina's spell backfires with Ji-ah’s help. Leti makes the blood connection, stripping Christina of her power only to be killed by Dee. But she is a spellbinder. Her body may be lifeless, but maybe she cast her spirit somewhere else, before her death. Badass witches (technically, she is not a witch) are hard to kill.

Is Tic Dead?

Jonathan Majors as Atticus Freeman in Lovecraft Country

“Say it ain't so".  Atticus “Tic” Freeman is dead? The Korean War veteran, son of Dora and Montrose Freeman. Well, it does not take a degree from the school of Sherlock Holmes that something was awry, especially in the last episode. Tic gets baptize, telling his dad he loved him and giving Dee his Shoggoth.

In an attempt to make the blood connection, he eats the flesh of Titus and drinks Christina’s blood. After he is lead to Christina upon arriving at the Sons of Adam’s Lodge, he is strapped to the sacrificial altar where Christina cuts his wrist and bathes in his blood while chanting a spell draining Tic of his life force. But if it can drain him of his life, can an alternate spell bring him back from his death as Christina did with Leti?

Is Ji-Ah Staying Or Going?

Jamie Chung as Ji Ah in Lovecraft Country

For the most part, Ji-Ah (Jamie Chung) is an anomaly to most viewers. Ji-Ah is a nurse student who took the life force of soldiers because she is a Kumiho, and Kumihos often take the shape of a beautiful woman but is a nine tails fox spirit.

Atticus (Jonathan Majors) fell in love with her but things changed when he found out her true nature. Because she loved Tic and saw his life/death when she attempted to take his life force, she came to help him against Christina (Abbey Lee). Ji-Ah helped Leti (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) make the blood connection depriving Christina of her power that eventually led to her death. Now that Tic is dead, will she stay or return home? Being a very popular character on the show, it is very likely that viewers see more of her next season.
