Timothy Olyphant has been tapped to star alongside Anya Taylor-Joy in an Apple TV+ show adaptation of a New York Times best-selling novel. Olyphant, who is known for his roles in Justified, Go, Deadwood, Santa Clarita Diet, Scream 2, and The Mandalorian, recently completed filming the English language remake of the 2021 Norwegian horror comedy The Trip, alongside fellow castmates Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, and Juliette Lewis. He is also set to the Alien franchise as the synthetic Kirsh in Noah Hawley’s Alien: Earth series, which is set to debut on FX and Hulu later this year.
Meanwhile, Taylor-Joy first rose to prominence as the lead in Robert Eggers’ 2015 horror movie The Witch, following that title with roles in The Queen's Gambit, Emma, Split, The Menu, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and more. She already has another Apple TV+ project lined up for release in a matter of weeks, on February 14. Taylor-Joy is set to star in The Gorge alongside Miles Teller and Sigourney Weaver. The science fiction movie, which was helmed by Doctor Strange and Sinister director Scott Derrickson, follows two elite snipers who are assigned to protect each side of an impenetrable gorge.
Olyphant Will Play Taylor-Joy’s Father In A New Crime Drama
The Justified Star Will Teach Taylor-Joy A Life Of Crime
One such project Taylor-Joy has on the horizon is the Apple TV+ adaptation of Lucky. Created by Banshee's Jonathan Tropper and based on Marissa Stapley's New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, the miniseries is set to focus on Taylor-Joy's title character, a young woman attempting to leave her life of crime behind, though she stumbles upon a lucky break that could either break her free for good or land her in jail. Alongside Taylor-Joy, the Lucky cast is also set to include Annette Bening as Priscilla, a dangerous mob leader.
Annette Bening is a five-time Oscar nominee for her performances in 1990's The Grifters, 1999's American Beauty, 2004's Being Julia, 2010's The Kids Are All Right, and 2023's Nyad.
Per Deadline, Olyphant has now been tapped to the cast of Lucky. The three-time Emmy nominee is set to star in the crime drama as John Armstrong, the father of Taylor-Joy's character in the Apple TV+ limited series. In the original novel, John was responsible for teaching his daughter to become an accomplished scam artist, thus putting her on the path of the life of crime she's working desperately to escape.
What This Means For Lucky
The Cast Is Full Of Notable Stars
Olyphant is the latest well-regarded star to the Lucky cast. Thanks to his three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for The Mandalorian, Outstanding Television Movie as a producer for Deadwood: The Movie, and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Justified, he has brought the cast's collective awards results to five Emmy nominations, five Oscar nominations, four BAFTA nominations, and 13 Golden Globe nominations. Over the years, he has also won the Theatre World Award for Outstanding Debut Performance in 1996 and been nominated for a Critics Choice Award and two SAG Awards.
Olyphant won his Theatre World Award for his performance in the off-Broadway play The Monogamist.
The roster of Timothy Olyphant movies and TV shows have been so successful and made him such an iconic screen presence that the star has even played fictionalized versions of himself onscreen multiple times, in the television shows The Grinder and The Good Place. With such a decorated trio at the center of the show, it seems highly likely that the ensemble cast of Lucky will continue to attract a deep bench of talent who are interested in working with these stars.
Our Take On Timothy Olyphant ing Apple TV+’s Lucky
Olyphant Has The Charisma Of An Accomplished Scam Artist
While Timothy Olyphant is perhaps best known for playing such lawmen as Justified’s Raylan Givens and Deadwood’s Seth Bullock, his career has also seen him on the other side of the law more than once. Having already played serial killers, assassins and cyber-terrorists, the idea of Olyphant stepping into the role of a professional grifter and con artist seems like a natural fit. With his proven charisma and undeniable charm, Olyphant is an exciting pick to play Taylor-Joy’s criminal father in Lucky.
