The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was first held on November 27, 1924 in New York City. Originally known as Macy's Christmas Parade, the event was created to promote the opening of the world's largest store. The route lasted 6 miles, starting on 145th Street in Harlem and ending in Herald's Square. It has changed course multiple times over the years, and now has 2.5 miles of public viewing.
The event includes activities for all ages and is known for its character balloons, marching bands, celebrity appearances, live music, and more.
