While it can be expected that the two games will eventually separate as more information is revealed about each game, the marketing strategy of EA can leave players wondering if either game will be different when they release on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Like that of FIFA 21, EA is offering a Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered by itself will not be a free upgrade. When it comes to the free upgrades, it seems like it’s either a port or there’s a catch. Madden 21 offering a free next-gen upgrade, given this pattern in the gaming industry, could potentially mean bad things for the next-gen version of Madden 21.
EA Sports recently released new information about the next-gen versions of Madden 21 and FIFA 21 on their Next Level website. This new information primarily highlights the capabilities of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S such as controller haptics, faster loading times, better lighting, and enhanced audio. There also are details that specifically relate to each game such as stats-driven player movement where “Real-life athlete data feeds into the Madden animation engine to create fluid, athletic player movement when accelerating, running routes, and changing direction,” and gameplay immersion where “New contextual player, bench, and fan reactions let you feel the explosive ion of a last-minute winner or a game-clinching touchdown.”
How EA Is Changing FIFA & Madden For Next-Gen
While no gameplay footage or information about game modes have been revealed, it seems that Madden 21 on next-gen will have at least some visual and audio improvements. Improved fan and sideline immersion could be a major upside in the eyes of some players, as fans and sideline players in Madden have typically been treated like background fodder rather than a part of the game being played. Although visual and audio improvements are important, gameplay is also important. If gameplay doesn’t improve on the next-gen consoles, EA could see more fan outrage about Madden 21.
Fans can expect Madden 21 to look and sound beautiful just by looking at the many next-gen games that have been revealed and shown. Players should also expect an improved game experience, but whether or not EA is able to deliver on that is on them. With the amount of power that the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S possess, there shouldn’t be any reason that the game doesn’t improve from its current-gen counterpart.

This should continue upon the arrival of Madden 21 on next-gen. Much like regular football fans, Madden has a deeply ionate fanbase who care about the game. If the game does not meet their expectations, EA will hear from them. It was fan disappointment that led to EA promising changes to Franchise Mode. With a new generation of consoles coming right around the corner and fans to appease, EA needs to brings its A-game to prove why it deserve to be the only NFL game on the market.
