Electronic Arts has once again used predicting the Kansas City Chiefs as the 2020 Super Bowl winner two years ago.
The Madden NFL series prides itself on delivering detailed and realistic football simulations, with current-generation consoles allowing a large leap for Madden NFL 22. Motion capture technology and photorealistic graphics allow believable movement and facial expressions from its players, with each athlete modeled directly off of a real NFL player. This realism extends to EA's yearly Madden NFL Super Bowl simulation, with the big game prediction reportedly achieving 61% accuracy since its inception. The simulation recreates the Super Bowl in extreme detail, down to individual touchdowns and es, but the outcome of each game is never set in stone. In 2021 Madden NFL 21 picked the Chiefs to win Super Bowl LV, which turned out to be inaccurate when Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers emerged victorious.
According to IGN, Electronic Arts' Madden NFL 22 predicts that the Cincinnati Bengals will win this year's Super Bowl by beating the LA Rams 24-21. While the Super Bowl simulation very rarely predicts the exact score of the game, the predicted score does suggest a very close game between the two titans. The report offers an in-depth breakdown of the simulation, with the Bengals scoring a touchdown in the first quarter before the Rams took a halftime lead. According to Madden NFL 22, the game will be won by a final last-minute drive from Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.
Alongside simulating the Super Bowl, the Madden NFL series always strives to maintain realism and cohesion with its corresponding season. Sometimes this even necessitates mid-season updates, like when Madden NFL 22 removed Raiders coach Jon Gruden following his resignation from the Las Vegas team. Last year a series of leaked emails from Gruden included misogynistic and homophobic language referring to Raiders players and female referees. Madden NFL 22 replaced Gruden with a generic coach to reflect his resignation.
While EA's Super Bowl simulation is not set in stone, it may help to predict the ebb and flow of the game. The projected score of 24-21 suggests a very intense back-and-forth, with both teams taking the lead at various points. While Madden NFL 22 predicts that the Bengals will take home the trophy, only time will tell whether the Rams can reject this simulation.
Madden NFL 22 is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Google Stadia.
