The dark fantasy anime Made in Abyss was a contender for best anime of the season back in the summer of 2022, and fans who enjoyed the second season will be excited to learn that Riko, Reg, and Nanachi's journey won't be over just yet.

At a special event in Japan on January 15, the Made in Abyss production committee announced that a sequel series to the second season of Made in Abyss, known as the Golden City of Scorching Sun, was approved to enter production. Little has been revealed about the third season at present, but it's safe to assume it will continue to adapt the manga as before. Given that production has only just begun, no release date is available as yet.
