The Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X, mirroring Jonathan Hickman's original Krakoan odyssey's House of X and Powers of X, will close out the Krakoan Era of the X-Men and usher in a new age for Marvel's Merry Mutants.
Fall of the House of X #2 - from writer Gerry Duggan and artist Lucas Werneck - will see the epic return of Polaris, filling in the impressive shoes of Magneto and donning a new costume inspired by her late father. Marvel's announcement unveils Pepe Larraz's magnificent cover for the issue and reveals:
The X-Men may be at their lowest spot, and they may be on the brink of complete eradication… but they are not going down without a fight! Polaris returns to guide the X-Men home, bringing a wicked surprise for Orchis! This epic tale split in two continues as the Krakoan Age nears its conclusion!
Polaris Is Krakoa's Last Hope Against Orchis
Polaris has not been seen since before the disastrous Hellfire Gala while still mourning Magneto's tragic death. Lorna's relationship with her father Magneto has always been complex and difficult, but she loved him and held deep grief after he ed during Judgment Day. Even though Magneto is soon to be resurrected, it is awesome to see Polaris donning a Magneto-inspired costume on Larraz's cover, honoring her father and his heroic legacy. Polaris was one of the X-Men trapped on the living island Krakoa in Giant-Size X-Men (1975) #1, and in her first major feat as an X-Men hero, she used her incredible electromagnetic abilities to throw the sentient mutant island into space.
Now, Polaris is returning to fight alongside her mutant brethren - and save Krakoa - displaying another incredible feat by using her magnetism to bring Knowhere with her. The former head of a Celestial, Knowhere was the Guardians of the Galaxy's base for some time before it was thrown into an artificial black hole alongside Hela and Thanos. X-Men (2021) #21 saw Forge and Monet using a Krakoan Gateway to travel to the missing Knowhere and were able to build a device that transports Knowhere out of the black hole and back into Earth-616, stationed near Jupiter.
Knowhere And The Brood Are Coming To Save The X-Men
During the Revenge of the Brood arc in X-Men and Captain Marvel, Jean Grey used the newly restored Knowhere to house Broo and his Brood family, keeping them safe from Cyclops' plans for genocide. However, Jean Grey and Broo spoke about redemption for the Brood, and it appears that time may have finally come. The Brood is an incredibly brutal and relentless alien race, and if Broo is able to control them like he says he can, the incoming Brood army could become the saviors of mutantkind.
Marvel has not revealed how Polaris gets to Knowhere - perhaps traveling there through a Krakoan Gateway before Orchis closed them - but she has clearly found a powerful way to help save the X-Men. Lorna's path as a hero has been wrought with tragedy, familial strife, and mental illness, but the powerful Polaris has always risen above these traumas to grow and heal. With the X-Men struggling to defeat Orchis in their final stand against their oppressors, the iconic Polaris will arrive in the nick of time, displaying her most impressive feat yet and donning a new costume that beautifully honors her father's legacy.
Fall of the House of X #2 from Marvel Comics debuts February 14th, 2024.
