According to the announcement from StarWars.comThe Mandalorian's exciting new comic book adaptation will be written by Rodney Barnes and illustrated by Georges Jeanty. They also confirmed that the series will be eight issues long (one issue for each episode of The Mandalorian's first season). While each issue will also have several different variant covers available, the main cover art for The Mandalorian #1 was revealed (coming from artist Adi Granov):

It's going to be very exciting to see The Mandalorian's first season depicted through Jeanty's iconic artwork which can currently be seen in Marvel's ongoing Star Wars: The High Republic comic series. Jeanty also shared his excitement for the series in the announcement as well:

Star Wars, especially where bounty hunters are concerned, is a messy landscape. I love drawing all the little details. My look has always be detail oriented, and with The Mandalorian there is so much going on with the character and  in the background, and I look forward to adding visually to the already rich tapestry that makes up this universe!

For fans who appreciate The Mandalorian's pieces of concept art featured in its credits sequences, this new adaptation should have a large appeal. It will also be interesting to see if any new insights or perspectives can be gleaned from Barnes' adaptation of the scripts as well.

While it certainly seems as though a comic adaptation of The Mandalorian's first season is long overdue, it's good that it's finally happening from Star Wars and Marvel Comics. It also suggests that an adaptation for the second season won't be far behind either. Either way, The Mandalorian #1 will be hitting the shelves this June.
