Rosario Dawson says her casting as Ahsoka Tano on The Mandalorian's return this October.
Of course, Lucasfilm prefers to operate in secrecy, meaning the news of Dawson's alleged casting was not accompanied by an official announcement. Dating back to the Force Awakens marketing campaign, the studio does their best to control the rollout of information regarding their projects, unveiling new details on their . That means Ahsoka could very well be in The Mandalorian season 2, but Lucasfilm is staying mum on the matter until they feel it's time to come out with something. So for now, Dawson has to play coy when discussing the topic.
In an interview with Variety, Dawson was asked about the possibility of ing The Mandalorian. The actress made sure to clarify her casting isn't official right now, and thanked the fan for (supposedly) making it happen:
“That’s not confirmed yet but when that happens, I will be very happy. I’m very excited for that to be confirmed at some point.”
Dawson's quote is ittedly a bit of a head-scratcher, making it sound like she has a deal in place but can't actually talk about it until Disney/Lucasfilm gives her the go-ahead. The situation bears some resemblance to Alden Ehrenreich's casting as young Han Solo for the spinoff movie this year's Celebration in August, bringing Dawson out to much fanfare. It remains to be seen if the event (which is taking place in Anaheim) will be able to go as scheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic, so the studio may have to alter Dawson's official Star Wars welcome.
Keeping Dawson's words in mind, it is becoming increasingly likely Ahsoka will indeed be in The Mandalorian, which is a very exciting proposition. Though Moff Gideon's possession of the Darksaber. Those are two of the most intriguing mysteries for The Mandalorian to unpack in season 2, and the fact a fan-favorite Jedi is finally making the leap to live-action to help solve them makes things more thrilling.
