Keeping Boba Fett's appearance in Rosario Dawson has been cast as Ahsoka Tano, the announcement of Temuera Morrison appearing as Boba Fett unites The Mandalorian season 2 with characters from both the prequel and original trilogies.

Long before it was revealed who the central character would be in The Mandalorian, Star Wars fans believed Boba Fett would be involved in some way - either as the titular character or in a secondary role. However, that didn't happen, despite 2004 re-releases of the Star Wars original trilogy - though this will be the first time he's portrayed the iconic bounty hunter in the flesh. The thing is, it would've undoubtedly been great to have this been revealed when season 2 was on the air, not in a report. Unfortunately, that just wouldn't have been possible.

Despite Lucasfilm being able to keep Boba Fett a secret during season 2's production, when everything was closely guarded on set and film crews were being monitored, it's easy for story and character details to leak during post-production; it happens all the time with major projects and has impacted Star Wars in the past. Unlike using a puppet here-and-there, officially casting someone in a live-action role and keeping that role a secret could only be closely guarded for so long. That's likely why Lucasfilm chose to reveal spoil Jim Hopper's fate in the first trailer for Stranger Things season 4. It's simply too difficult to keep rumors, reports, and leaks of castings a secret in this day-and-age, especially for a major project like The Mandalorian season 2. There's only so many reasons an actor like Temuera Morrison would be on a Star Wars set for.

The Mandalorian's Boba Fett Casting Could Be Hiding A Surprise

With all that being said, this season could still include a bombshell for viewers. Morrison's first role in the Star Wars universe came as Jango Fett, a bounty hunter who was also the template for the Republic's clone army. As Star Wars: The Clone Wars fan favorites like Rex, Wolffe, or any other clone to live-action for the first time. It's worth noting that this would be the first time a clone trooper appears in the flesh, since the clones in the prequel trilogy were all CG.

At any rate, Boba Fett's return to the Star Wars franchise is worth the anticipation it's generating. While it might be a mistake for The Mandalorian, it's no less buzz-worthy and it gives fans another reason to tune in when season 2 releases, not just to continue the adventures of Mando and Baby Yoda, which may not be enough to lure everyone back. While it would have made for a nice surprise to keep Boba Fett a secret, it would have been nearly impossible to pull off in the digital age. That isn't to say there won't be any cameos in the form of Jango's clones, likely from Rex. The Mandalorian season 2 will surely deliver on some shocking moments, but unlike Baby Yoda, Boba Fett will not be one of them.
