Giancarlo Esposito becomes the latest The Mandalorian alums to tease season 3's epic scale. Despite being relatively new to the Star Wars universe's ever-expanding lore, The Mandalorian has turned series heroes Din Djarin and his would-be Jedi accomplice, Grogu, into instant fan favorites. Across both seasons of the show, the duo's greatest nemesis has been Esposito's Moff Gideon, a remnant of the now-defunct Galactic Empire, determined to use Grogu's force-sensitive ways for his own nefarious purposes. Despite Gideon almost getting the best of Din, season 2's epic finale saw the Mandalorian defeat his enemy, with Gideon ending the season in New Republic custody.

But despite his fate seemingly sealed at the end of season 2, Esposito has teased big things for the show's return. During an interview with The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau's recent comments about season 3's epic scale, Esposito continues to describe the season as a "sight and sound extravaganza." Read Esposito's full comments below:

"I love the mythology that goes behind this show that's incorporated into the visuals that seem to be filmic. And I love the fact that you're able to see, with each episode this season, you're really turning on a new movie. Visually, it's a sight and sound extravaganza that expands you to a place that."

What To Expect From The Mandalorian Season 3

Din Djarin and Grogu go underground in The Mandalorian season three.

All signs point to The Mandalorian season 3 being on a much bigger scale than seen throughout the series so far, and with where Din and Grogu's story is heading, it's easy to see why. The show is building up to a tense reunion between Din and Black Watch leader Bo-Katan Kryz. With Din determined to re-establish himself as a true Mandalorian - and Bo-Katan's eyes firmly on Din's Darksaber - the series is gearing up for war. The series will also visit the Mandalorian homeworld of Mandalore, offering viewers their first proper live-action look at one of Star Wars lore's most important locales.

But how Gideon fits into the equation remains to be seen, with the Moff's Grogu-chasing days appearing to be over. Esposito has previously said that season 3's Gideon will be different, with the character set to reveal his vulnerable side. Given Star Wars' history of painting its villains as complex, multi-dimensional characters, the show exploring Gideon's vulnerability isn't surprising, especially as it's a trait that's continued to the franchise's transition to live-action TV. If, however, the season will look deeper into Gideon's character, it's interesting to consider just how much Gideon will see of the series' epic, movie-like scale, especially if the character spends much of the season behind bars.

While no stranger to big-budget set pieces and exciting action sequences, it will be interesting to see just how big The Mandalorian's season 3 will go. The series has felt like it's been building up to something for some time. A civil war between Mando and Bo-Katan may be the perfect way for The Mandalorian to demonstrate how a TV show can deliver an authentic cinematic experience. With the show recently confirmed to be returning to screens on 1st March 2023, the countdown to The Mandalorian's war for Mandalore has begun.
