With the Star Wars movies on hiatus for the next few years (the next film won't release until December 2022), the studio is banking on TV to satisfy fans' cravings for more stories in the galaxy far, far away. There are Disney+ shows centered around Cassian Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi in the pipeline, but The Mandalorian is the franchise's main attraction right now

Lucasfilm seemed to know what they had in the show, as the inclusion of live-action Ahsoka Tano. With all of the mysteries and storylines at The Mandalorian's center, it feels like the creative team has barely scratched the surface of the show's potential. And fortunately, it isn't going to go away any time soon.

This news shouldn't come as any surprise. The Mandalorian isn't just an important project for Star Wars, it's also Disney+'s flagship program. Mandalorian documentary series chronicling the making of season 1.

The Cassian and Obi-Wan shows coming to Disney+ will probably be miniseries that ultimately have limited runs (due to their proximity to the Star Wars films those characters are a part of). What sets The Mandalorian apart from those is that it can continue for an extended period of time. It follows a group of characters fans are largely unfamiliar with, and its place in the timeline means there's still plenty of fertile ground for stories. Right now, there's no reason to think The Mandalorian will end at three seasons. As long as Favreau and company have ideas, they should have free rein to do what they want.
