Star Wars trilogy much better than Disney's sequels. This is just one more way that The Mandalorian is reminding viewers of the first three Star Wars movies.

In the beginning of The Mandalorian episode 5, Mando gets caught in a space battle with a bounty hunter who attacks his ship. He significantly damages Mando's ship, but Mando expertly outmaneuvers him and obliterates his opponent with a well-timed blast. The result is a glorious explosion that's reminiscent of how action sequences like these were handled in movies like A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.
Though the special effects in the original trilogy was ahead of its time by a mile when they were first released, they're still considered old-school by today's standards. Disney's Star Wars sequels have moved on from this approach to action. And like other modern, big-budget action films, tribute to a scene in A New Hope.
As for the other kinds of battle sequences in the show, The Mandalorian doesn't use a lot of over-the-top action, and is a bit more grounded than the sequels by employing traditional gun battles. This aspect of the series helps The Mandalorian feel in more in tune with the original trilogy, which is certainly one of the things that fans have appreciated most about the Disney+ series. By revisiting classic Star Wars locations, infusing its episodes with fun, nostalgic references and even adopting its old-school approach to action, The Mandalorian is honoring the originals in the best way.
