New fan-art imagines Benedict Cumberbatch as Grand iral Thrawn in Star Wars. Ever since Ahsoka Tano name-dropped the Chiss tactician in the latest episode of The Mandalorian, fans have been hyped about his potential live-action debut through a future project.

It hasn't been that long when Thrawn was a character who only existed in Star Wars Legends. He was brought into the new Disney canon through Star Wars Rebels season 3 where he was tapped by the Empire to go after the Ghost Crew who had been causing serious problems for the Imperials. His appearance in the Disney XD animated series was followed by a new novel by Timothy Zahn - the creator of Thrawn who first debuted in the 1991's Heir to the Empire novel. Despite a few changes in his story, the character is mostly faithful to his original version when he made his small screen introduction. Now, however, it's possible that Lucasfilm is once again planning on bringing to the forefront of Star Wars through a live-action iteration.

Courtesy of digital creator apexform is a new illustration visualizing what Cumberbatch could look like as Thrawn. In the caption, the creator expresses their optimism that it's only a matter of time before the blue-skinned villain makes his Star Wars re-emergence, and when the time comes, they hope the British actor is cast for the part, something that their fans echoed in the comment section. Check out the image below:

In The Mandalorian season 2 episode titled "The Jedi," Ahsoka confronted the Magistrate, demanding that she tells her where Grand iral Thrawn is who's apparently her master. The villain was last seen jumping to hyperspace to an unknown destination with Ezra Bridger in the Star Wars Rebels finale and despite not giving any specifics about their whereabouts, series creator Dave Filoni confirmed that both survived the trip. The Mandalorian didn't give an inkling why Ahsoka is looking for Thrawn and it makes things more difficult to predict since it's uncertain if when the events of the Disney+ show lands in the Star Wars timeline in relation to the final episode of Star Wars Rebels. Whatever the case may be, fans took this reveal as a set-up for Thrawn's eventual live-action introduction.

With that, fans are obviously looking forward to seeing who Disney taps to play the Star Wars character. Rosario Dawson, who now plays Ahsoka, did a fantastic job in her first outing as the character so the expectation is high for whoever lands the new gig. If Disney and Lucasfilm are ultimately convinced that Cumberbatch is perfect for the part as the aforementioned art is suggesting, coordinating with the actor's camp won't be too difficult since he's already part of the House of Mouse being attached to the MCU by playing Doctor Strange.
