Everyone needs a break sometimes, especially hard-working manga artists who toil around the clock to create hit stories. Still, fans were surprised to see a recent post on X from You Chiba announcing that he’ll be taking a two-month break from writing and drawing the popular Shonen Jump+ title Kindergarten Wars. What’s more, Chiba used this opportunity to let fans know that once he returns, the series—which began in 2022—will enter its final arc.

In his post on X, You Chiba provided a valid reason for his break and shared details on when Kindergarten Wars will resume:

"Sorry, my back hurts from drawing too much…! I’ll be taking a break until March 27, but I’ll definitely come back stronger! Please wait for me! We’re entering the final chapter, but there’s still a long way to go, so please look forward to it!"

Fans of the series then will have to stay strong for two months before they get to find out what You Chiba has in store for the finale of his successful manga.

The Rise of Kindergarten Wars

A Unique Mix of Action and Comedy

Kindergarten Wars began serialization as part of Shonen Jump’s “Jump Rookie” program, which allows creators to self-publish their work online. After You Chiba’s series gained popularity, it transitioned into an official part of Shonen Jump+. As of now, the series has been collected into 13 volumes.

The story is set in a kindergarten attended by the children of the world's leaders. The protagonist, Rita, a former legendary assassin, takes on a secret mission as a kindergarten teacher to protect these special children from other assassins for one year in exchange for a reduced sentence. The narrative blends action and romantic comedy elements, centering on the chaotic battles between teachers and would-be assassins.

Many manga artists in Japan have openly shared their struggles with arthritis, chronic pain, and mental exhaustion due to the relentless demands of the industry. It’s crucial for artists like You Chiba to take breaks when needed—especially when gearing up to complete a long-running series like Kindergarten Wars.
