All this fanfare meant plenty of people were looking forward to seeing the Mare of Easttown finale on Sunday, May 30. However, HBO Max subscribers started experiencing technical difficulties after the episode released. In a tweet at 10:26 PM, right in the middle of the finale, HBOMaxHelp issued an apology for any issues their customers were having with streaming. While some people had issues getting onto the service, others claimed to have other titles playing when they tried to stream Mare of Easttown. While the issue resolved itself relatively quickly for some, others were stuck waiting to see the mystery resolved.

About two hours after the apology tweet, HBO issued a statement saying that the issue had been resolved. They also warned that some s would have to sign out and then sign back in in order to have the service up and running again. Mare of Easttown is not referenced in either of the tweets about the incident. HBO never confirmed whether or not Mare of Easttown was the ultimate culprit in causing issues for the service, but it's possible an influx of viewers shut down the streaming service. With the highly anticipated finale coming on a Memorial Day weekend that was for so many rainy and cold, it would make sense that HBO would have been experiencing an especially high and possibly unanticipated influx of viewers. It should be noted, however, that those watching the finale on HBO through Hulu did not experience any technical difficulties.

It was definitely frustrating to see HBO Max encounter problems in the immediate release of the Mare of Easttown finale, but the matter was fixed relatively quickly and now subscribers are able to access the episode. Fortunately for those who had to wait, the Mare of Easttown ending left viewers satisfied and wanting more. It will be interesting to see if a season 2 is ever made, but in the meantime those who enjoyed it can find similar shows to The Mare of Easttown on various streaming services to fill the void.
