Nintendo has revealed that Super Mario 35 players have killed almost 1.5 million Bowsers to date, as part of an ongoing in-game event. Bowser is usually the antagonist of the Super Mario Bros. games, but he isn't the main target in Super Mario 35.

is a battle royale, where the main goal is to survive longer than the other players. It's possible to select different types of opponent using the right stick, in a similar manner to Tetris 99. When the player defeats an enemy, that enemy is sent to the screen of another player. As such, most of the deaths in Super Mario 35 are caused by an onslaught of Goombas and Koopas sent by other people. Most players are lucky to reach a Bowser fight in Super Mario 35, as the traditional levels are a gauntlet of misplaced enemy units.

There is an ongoing event in Super Mario 35, where players must kill 3.5 million Bowsers. The official Nintendo YouTube  has confirmed that, as of January 20, Super Mario 35 players have killed 1498560 Bowsers, as part of the World Count Challenge. It's unclear whether players have hit the 3.5 million Bowser goal, as the event is due to end today.

In order to take part in the event, Super Mario 35 players need to go into the Special Battle mode. They will be given a selection of stages that increase the odds of meeting a Bowser, invitation letters.

Super Mario 35 would be one of the best additions to Nintendo Switch Online, but it's going to be removed from the service in March, so it's hard to get too invested. With that being said, the 350 Platinum Points is enough of an incentive to dive back in, for at least one Bowser homicide. It didn't take long for players to clear the million Bowser mark, and if everyone pitches in, then a couple million more Bowsers should fall before the deadline is reached.
