Thanks to a new mod for Kirby taking over Spider-Man.
The hype continues to build for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, as it appears to be the biggest shake-up to the series' formula in years. For one thing, The Forgotten Land will be the first fully-3D game featuring the iconic pink blob, with most previous entries being side-scrollers. This change in perspective, along with the strength of the Switch relative to previous Nintendo consoles, means that this will likely be a much more expansive Kirby adventure. Perhaps the most talked-about change, however, is the aforementioned Mouthful Mode, in which Kirby can possess inanimate objects and bend them to his will. A trailer showcasing the ability depicts Kirby taking over a vending machine, traffic cone, and, of course, a car. Fans seem to have taken a particular interest in the car-Kirby hybrid, with one even creating a mock-up version of this vehicle in Mario Kart.
The fantasy of having Carby in Mario Kart is even closer to becoming a reality thanks to a new mod for Mario Kart 8. As reported by gaming outlet Dexerto, this mod allows players to apply the Carby skin to their vehicle prior to starting a race. There is a skin for the main body of the car, but an additional cosmetic can be applied to the car's parachute, doubling the amount of Kirby-ness on the vehicle. It does not appear that this mod will provide players with any mechanical or gameplay alterations.
Images of the mod in action show a vehicle that looks surprisingly like the one showcased in trailers for Kirby and the Forgotten Land. As such, fans looking to get their hands on Carby early will likely be fond of this mod. Mario Kart 8 continues to expand with the addition of new maps, so coupling that with fun mods like this one is sure to keep things fresh in the almost-eight-year-old title.
As silly as it is, this Carby mod might not be long for this world. Nintendo is a particularly litigious video game company when it comes to mods and hacks, so it's not uncommon for mods for games like Mario Kart 8 to be swiftly taken down. Thankfully, gamers will be able to play as Carby when Kirby and the Forgotten Land releases next month.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land will be cruising onto the Nintendo Switch on March 25, 2022.
