One talented game design, Game Builder Garage allows players to create virtually anything their heart desires within its sandbox, be that an original game idea or a fun tribute to hit titles of the past.

First announced for the Nintendo Switch back in May and released just a month later, Game Builder Garage has already drawn a considerable base, gaining moderate praise from critics for just how easy it is to build and share unique -generated content. It has been compared favorably to other game-creation titles like Dreams, N++, and Minecraft, all of which allow players to flex their creative muscles in ways that are just as fun to observe as they are to take part in firsthand.

Just a few days ago, YouTube channel BeardBear posted a video of a recreation of the original Super Nintendo version of Mario Kart that was put together using Game Builder Garage by ZeldaBoi. The minute-long clip features 2D-style sprites racing along a 3D track, quickly switching between various characters like Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach as they speed past obstacles like Warp Pipes amidst a colorful backdrop.

Fan own playable version of Pac-Man, one that was released as DLC in the game’s online marketplace on the Nintendo Switch. That doesn’t include the various costumes and characters from games like Star Fox or Super Smash Bros that have shown up throughout Animal Crossing’s online community.

Aside from the slightly jarring effect of seeing the 2D sprites racing along a 3D track, ZeldaBoi’s Game Builder Garage tribute to Mario Kart is a spot-on reenactment of the Super Nintendo classic that kicked off one of Nintendo’s most noteworthy multiplayer franchises. Just like Dreams and Little Big Planet before it, Game Builder Garage has a lot of potential as a source of -generated content, something that will surely become more apparent as the game gains more s in the months following its relatively low-key release earlier this year.
