When it comes to reality TV shows, not all couples are created equally. Some of them end up experiencing love at first sight. They fall for one another immediately, and the rest is reality TV history. Other pairs crash and burn in a cringy way that somehow still makes for quality reality television.
With the hit reality show Married At First Sight, couples are introduced to the person they will wed. Imagine walking into matrimony with a total stranger. Some see this as an adventure, and others have their doubts, but everyone comes into the scenario with their own thoughts, fears, and feelings. We love when one of these couples ends up going the distance, but that doesn't always happen. Some couples are just too different to stay together.
Loved: Cortney Hendrix & Jason Carrion
She was an adorable makeup artist and he was a hard-working, very good looking fireman. Fans of the show loved watching this pretty pair figure their way out. By the end of their trial period, everyone and their mother was rooting for Cortney and Jason to stay together, and they did!
After Decision Day, the couple got hit with bad news time and time again. His mother ed away, and she lost her job. The arguments piled up, and after five years together, they are divorced. They may no longer be a couple, but we will always celebrate them as one of our favorite couples to appear on the show.
Hated: Neil Bowlus & Sam Role
Sam and Neil could not get on the same page, no matter how hard they tried. She gave him the cold shoulder in the early weeks of their marriage, and by decision day, Neil had had enough and asked for a divorce.
They were a frustrating pair to watch because every viewer felt that IF they could land on similar ground, maybe there would really be something there. We will never know, as both Sam and Neil have moved on with their lives. Fortunately, years later, they still think fondly of one another.
Loved: Stephanie Sersen & AJ Vollmoeller
Obviously, there was chemistry between these two right off the bat, but the first weeks of their new relationship were anything but smooth sailing. They bickered and had trouble communicating their needs to each other, but still, they worked their issues out and grew as a unit.
The devotion and hard work they put toward making the marriage function makes them one of the show's all-time favorite couples. Even though their personalities were ying and yang, their goals for a future were totally simpatico.
Hated: Jessica Castro & Ryan De Nino
Jessica and Ryan were not right for one another, and their mismatch showed during their time on the hit reality show. Even though everything about them was toxic and wrong, they tried to stay together after Decision Day.
That ended up being an ill choice and Jessica ultimately filed a restraining order against her spouse. It was later revealed that Ryan was assuming a fake name and using illegal substances during his time on the show.
Loved: Danielle Bergman & Bobby Dodd
It didn't take long for viewers to fall just as in love with this couple as the couple did with each other. Danielle was smitten with the man chosen for her right off the bat, proclaiming to be the luckiest woman around. Dodd returned her sentiment, and the pair seemed to relish in those early days of getting to know one another.
Throughout their trial period of being newlyweds, they didn't have a single fight! Their love has only grown since those days, and the duo is now the proud parents to two sons.
Hated: Luke Cuccurullo & Kate Sisk
Luke and Kate were so unlikable and unhealthy together that even the experts advised them to go their separate ways.
They also had some issues in the bedroom, and when Kate finally did push the issue and got her way, he was not thrilled at the result. They tried to stay together, partly because of an emotional connection, but it wasn't enough.
Loved: Ashley Petta & Anthony D'Amico
Anthony and Ashley met four years ago on their wedding day. The reality stars appeared in the fifth season of Married at First Sight and really did experience love at first sight. They quickly became fan favorites by openly communicating with one another and respecting one another through the strange getting to know each other process.
The matching making process got things very right with these two. They are still together and are expecting their second child.
Hated: Heather Seidel & Derek Schwartz
The saying goes, you cannot be a good and loving partner if you do not, in fact, love yourself. Couples who work out tend to be well-rounded individuals who have or at least can work through their issues.
Heather and Luke had an initial attraction to each other on their wedding day, but soon after that, their personal issues started popping up all over the place. It was clear that both of them had some demons to conquer. She had her love of the bottle, and he had a penchant for smoking. They were both quick to point the finger at one another, but never turn the mirror on themselves.
Loved: Jaime Otis & Doug Hehner
Jaime and Doug are Married at First Sight royalty. They appeared in the very first season, wed, and somehow managed to stay together. The secret to their marital success was to stay low key.
Sure, they had their disagreements and plenty of "what did I get myself into moments," but through it all, they made viewers believe that true love, at first sight, was possible. The pair is still together to this day and they have two children.
Hated: Matthew Gwynne & Amber Bowles
Viewers saw Matthew and Amber say, "I do," and immediately wondered just how long these two would try and make things work. He knew she wasn't the one for him, and after the honeymoon, fans watched in horror as they crumbled in front of their very eyes.
He would disappear without explanation, leaving Amber to drink with friends, and she spiraled into neediness, with his disconnect triggering her abandonment issues. The final straw was when Amber suffered total embarrassment at work after learning about Matt texting other women.
