Upon seeing the relationship failures on MAFS villains who aren’t looking for their relationships to work. With such an influx of characters who care about themselves and their egos way more than marriage, there is no way the experts aren't doing this on purpose.

Michelle Tomblin is a villain many are talking about this season, constantly finding reasons to criticize and disrespect her match, David Trimble. Another is Ikechi Ojoré, a man many think was looking to the cast of Married At First Sight to bring attention to himself as a reality TV star. Madison Myers is another villain, making it clear from the first episode she's not interested in her match, Allen Slovick.

Do The MAFS Experts Look For Egomaniacs?

It Must Be Purposeful

With the number of egomaniacs on Married at First Sight season 18, there's no way the experts overlooked all these flaws. Ikechi tried out for the show multiple times before finally making it on season 18, and with how hard he tried to get on TV, the experts had to know his intentions weren't pure. Throughout the season, it became clear that Ikechi was only looking for a woman he could control, which is a trait experts had to have noticed before they cast him.

The show casting Camille Parsons is another example of the experts looking for people with huge egos to the series. After being paired with Thomas McDonald, Camille has done nothing but criticize him, including his lack of "swagger." If the experts are as skilled in relationships as they claim to be, it seems clear that they are intentionally looking for people who are concerned with their image instead of making a genuine connection.

Michelle’s approach to her marriage with David in Married at First Sight season 18 stands out for her focus on his shortcomings rather than any efforts to connect with him. She has been particularly bothered by the fact that David still lives with his parents and tends to exaggerate minor issues, like his eating habits. Rather than working on building a bond or rapport with him, Michelle has zeroed in on his flaws, which proves she thinks much more highly of herself than she does of him.

As the marriage progresses, Michelle continues to highlight what she perceives as problems with David, pointing out daily issues she feels need to be addressed. Her frequent remarks about his eating habits, which she deems unhealthy, have been uncomfortable for many viewers to watch. Despite their relatively short time together, Michelle’s tendency to find fault with David in a way that seems harsh and counterproductive has been a recurring theme in their dynamic.

Though the season has featured the highest volume of villains yet, this is far from the first time Married At First Sight has featured some egomaniacs. Chris Williams from season 12 is one of the most disliked cast of all time, as he was engaged to another woman only three months before getting married on the show. His red flags were visible from day one since he came with so much baggage, but despite this, the experts still matched him with Paige Banks.

With the amount of mega villains the experts have cast on Married At First Sight over the years, it seems clear they're doing it on purpose, though there's no proof. If they focused on creating couples who were compatible instead of trying to create good television, the marriages would have a better chance of lasting. Starting a marriage without knowing your partner is already risky enough, but with the experts seemingly targeting egomaniacs, it makes the chance for success that much lower.

Married At First Sight airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST on Lifetime.

Experts provide counseling and guidance as they help couples navigate their new marriage with their unknown partner and highlight the journey of the newlyweds from wedding to honeymoon to beginning their new lives together. At the end of eight weeks, couples will decide to stay married or divorce.
