Avengers: Endgame, talks about the possibility of rounding up all the strong women in their own film have heated up. And fans aren't the only one pushing for this to happen, because two of the most vocal feminists in the franchise are unsurprisingly behind this.
For years, the MCU was dominated by strong men, with only Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow as its prominent heroine. But things are slowly changing with an influx of women of power in the franchise over the last few years. Zoe Saldana's Gamora, Karen Gillan's Nebula, Evangeline Lily's The Wasp, Pom Klementieff's Mantis, Danai Gurira's Okoye, Letitia Wright's Shuri, Lupita Nyong'o's Nakia, even before that Endgame A-Force shot.
This weekend, Larson and Thompson made an appearance at ACE Comic-Con in Chicago to talk all things MCU. With two of the most outspoken actors in the franchise in the , the subject of an all-female project inspired by the comic's A-Force obviously came up, and both of them are hopeful that somehow it can be done. “I want to work together as a team, us women doing things, in a film or two,” Thompson said. Meanwhile, Larson suggested that if fans keep the conversation going, the chances of it coming to fruition increases: “The more people talk about it, are behind it and interested in it, the more likely it is to happen.”
Talks of an A-Force film first surfaced after Marvel Studios held their 10th anniversary photoshoot where it was revealed that some of the female cast Black Widow also introducing a couple of strong female roles - many takes this is a positive sign towards it eventually come to fruition.
Aside from having the genuine intention of making an A-Force film, the tricky thing about pushing through with the project is the finding the right story. It seems odd to just bring together all these heroines without any context on where their male counterparts are. The fact that the MCU prioritizes their films' interconnectivity, the proposed movies story should fit well in the established canon. In any case, if Marvel Studios decide to do an Elseworlds type of segment, this type of narrative will be easier to bring to the big screen.
