Summary
- Actor Lewis Pullman confirms he's playing a character named Bob at the Thunderbolts* San Diego Comic Con .
- Bob may actually be Robert Reynolds a.k.a Sentry.
- Marvel Studios may be keeping Sentry's full reveal for later.
Sentry's the star-studded Thunderbolts* cast, including Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, and David Harbour, discussed their characters. Exclusive Thunderbolts* footage also showed most of the team crossing paths for the first time.
During the Thunderbolts* presentation at San Diego Comic Con actor Lewis Pullman revealed that he's playing a character named Bob, but didn't disclose any further details. However, the only Marvel Comics character named Bob who's connected to the Thunderbolts is Robert Reynolds, Sentry's civilian identity. In the comics, Robert Reynolds becomes Sentry when he consumes an upgraded version of the Super Soldier serum.
Why Thunderbolts* Would Be Right To Keep Sentry A Movie Secret
Marvel Would Be Right To Wait A Little Longer To Reveal Sentry As Thunderbolts*' Main Villain
San Diego Comic Con 2024 seemed like an ideal opportunity to raise anticipation for Thunderbolts*, as Sentry is one of the most powerful characters in Marvel Comics lore. However, Sentry's full reveal can have a bigger impact closer to Thunderbolts*' April 2025 release date. Thunderbolts* can still heighten expectations with costume reveals, a clearer explanation of Val's villainous plans, and the confirmation of the Thunderbolts' mission — not to mention a first trailer that could include part of the Thunderbolts* footage seen at San Diego Comic Con, which featured the team meeting each other.

Kevin Feige Still Hasn't Explained The Asterisk In The Thunderbolts* Title
In 2024, Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts was retitled as Thunderbolts*, yet Kevin Feige still did not explain the mysterious asterisk at SDCC 2024.
Sentry's immense power presents a nearly impossible challenge for Val's Thunderbolts, meaning that most of Thunderbolts*' runtime might focus on the team and their attempt to get along with each other, similar to the Avengers when they first assemble to fight Loki in 2012's The Avengers. It would then make sense for Robert Reynolds' Sentry transformation to be saved for Thunderbolts*' third act, leading to an intense final battle between Sentry and the Thunderbolts. In that case, it would only be appropriate for the Thunderbolts*' marketing plan to avoid showing Sentry altogether.
Steven Yeun was set to play Sentry in Thunderbolts*', but he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.
Lewis Pullman stood alongside the rest of the Thunderbolts* cast at San Diego Comic Con . With the exception of Taskmaster actor Olga Kurylenko, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine's whole team was present at San Diego Comic Con. Therefore, Lewis Pullman's "Bob" character is unlikely to be a simple human character, at least not one who doesn't eventually gains the power of a million suns during the MCU's Thunderbolts*.
