Spider-Man’s very own Felicia “Black Cat” Hardy is officially returning to the Marvel Universe this August with a brand-new solo series, led by some of the comic industry’s most talented and promising creators. With this return comes a new era for Black Cat, as she fully commits to being a superhero and leaves behind her morally grey tendencies.
August 20, 2025, will mark the official debut of writer G. Willow Wilson and artist Gleb Melnikov’s Black Cat series, which will kick off Felicia’s new era as a fully-fledged superhero.
This series will directly continue the events of Joe Kelly, Pepe Larraz, and John Romita Jr.'s Amazing Spider-Man #8–9 (2025), where Felicia’s “entire world turned upside down after Spider-Man's battle with Hellgate.” As a result, the solo series will follow Black Cat as she turns over a new leaf as New York’s newest hero, apparently leaving behind her character-defining career as a thief.

JeeHyung Lee Variant for Black Cat #1 (2025)
The synopsis for Black Cat #1 teases that the first supervillain Felicia will be targeting is The Lizard, one of Spider-Man’s most iconic foes, who dates back to his debut in Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s The Amazing Spider-Man #6 (1963). The synopsis also hints that Black Cat will face various moral dilemmas, suggesting she will experience a major learning curve as she adjusts to life as a hero. The series promises twists and turns, mind-bending action, and laughs, making it clear that while the stakes for Black Cat will keep fans on the edge of their seats, the humor will keep things from becoming too serious, making this a must-read.
Black Cat marks G. Willow Wilson’s first ongoing Marvel series since Ms. Marvel (2015) ended, making the announcement of this title all the more exciting for fans of her Marvel work. While Gleb Melnikov’s interior art for the series has yet to be revealed, the main cover by Adam Hughes and the released variant covers by JeeHyung Lee, Peach Momoko, and Simone Di Meo offer plenty of visual incentive to pick up this series. This only raises anticipation for the first look at Melnikov’s art, which is sure to impress given his work on Amazing Spider-Man.

For those wanting to get a feel for Wilson’s take on Black Cat, they can check out her Past Lives short story in last year’s Spider-Man: Black Suit & Blood (2024) #4. Past Lives was a tale starring Black Cat that was incredibly well-received by fans, many of whom began asking Wilson when she would write more Felicia. As a result, the news that Wilson will be spearheading a Black Cat series is also a fan wish come true. When commenting on her excitement to lead the project, Wilson said, “Black Cat is so much fun to work with. She's a ing character with main character energy. And she has such a rich history that there are tons of tantalizing story threads to pull on.” There is no doubt that Spider-Man’s Black Cat is in good hands.
