Spotted by Bishop and Cable as they traverse time and preview Marvel’s 2025 stories, one of the brand-new heroes of Exceptional X-Men takes the spotlight to deliver an important message.

Timeslide #1 – written by Steve Foxe, with art by Ivan Fiorelli – features a slightly older, more experienced version of Trista Marshall, who assists Cable and Bishop when they wind up in “the near future” during their battle against the time-eating villain Vacuna. As “one of the few X-Men left” in this future, and the one who gets the honor of sharing Marvel’s big 2025 preview, it seems that Bronze has the potential to be the biggest new mutant to debut in 2024. When she shows up in Timeslide, taking down a War-Lock drone and helping X-veterans Bishop and Cable, it’s surprising that one of the X-Men’s newbies is established as one of the remaining mutant heroes in this version of the future. Along with the list she created, Bronze warns that Apocalypse’s heir, Revelation, has finally followed through on the villain’s plans.

As iconic X-Men heroes Bishop and Cable travel through time to stop a horrible foe in Timeslide, the heroes will witness the Marvel Universe's future.

Created by Eve Ewing and Carmen Carnero for Exceptional X-Men #1, Bronze is still learning to hone her metallic mutant powers under the guidance of Kitty Pryde, Emma Frost, and Bobby Drake. She was taken under Kitty’s wing in her first appearance, taught to embrace her identity as a mutant, and Timeslide’s version of the future ultimately sees her as one of the last hopes of mutantkind. She also name-drops Jitter from Uncanny X-Men as one of the mutants she’s still working with, but Bronze seems to be taking the most proactive role from what is teased in Timeslide.

An Exceptional Debut

Of the major mutant characters to debut on new X-Men teams this year, as the mutants rise from the ashes, Bronze seems to be the standout character of the group so far. In Exceptional X-Men, Trista has already seemed to develop the most meaningful relationship with Kitty Pryde, mirroring Kitty’s relationship with Storm when she first ed the team. In just a few appearances, a new era in Marvel Comics.

While Bronze battles Revelation in the near future, as one of the only surviving mutant heroes, one of Marvel’s newest characters officially becomes a major part of the X-Men.

Since Jitter is also mentioned, she and the other new mutants introduced in 2024 could certainly still take on vital roles as their stories unfold. However, Trista’s appearance in Timeslide signals that she’s not only a fan-favorite, but one of the favorites in-house at Marvel Comics as well, and that alone could see her become more prominent in its future stories. While Bronze battles Revelation in the near future, as one of the only surviving mutant heroes, one of Marvel’s newest characters officially becomes a major part of the X-Men and one of 2024’s most essential new heroes.

Timeslide #1 is available now from Marvel Comics.
